The Power of Support Over Blame: My Biggest Lesson from the Amal Fellowship

In the whirlwind of group projects, late-night discussions, and personal growth sessions that define the Amal Academy Fellowship, one moment stands out as truly transformative for me. It wasn’t a grand revelation during a lecture or a solo breakthrough. It was a quiet shift in perspective during our project work that changed how I approach teamwork, responsibility, and even myself. The instance that had the most profound impact on me happened during our group project phase. I was going through my terminal exams (finals), which consumed all my energy and time. As a result, I wasn’t able to participate actively in our team’s work. I felt guilty, like I was letting everyone down, and I kept waiting for the usual group dynamic: blame, frustration, or subtle resentment toward the person who was “not pulling their weight.” But that didn’t happen. Instead, my batch mate Neha quietly stepped up and took the lead. She handled a lot of the work without complaint, kept the momentum going, and made sure the project progressed smoothly. No one pointed fingers at me or made me feel worse about my situation. When my exams finally ended, I jumped back in with full effort, and I ended up being the one who designed the core structure of our project. The team welcomed me back seamlessly, and together we delivered something we were all proud of. That experience flipped a switch in my thinking. I used to believe that in a group, if someone isn’t contributing, it’s natural to blame them. It’s “their fault,” and the burden falls on them to fix it. But Amal showed me the opposite is far more powerful: instead of looking at what others aren’t doing, focus on what you are giving to the group. This realization made me reflect deeply on myself and how I see the world around me. I started noticing how often we waste energy on blame. It drains motivation, creates division, and solves nothing. When I shifted to asking, “What can I contribute right now?” everything changed. I became more proactive, more empathetic, and surprisingly, more effective in teams. I now see challenges not as personal failures or others’ shortcomings, but as opportunities for collective support. It’s made me calmer under pressure and more generous with my time and effort. A huge part of this realization came from the energy and actions of the people around me, especially Neha and the rest of my learning group. Their maturity in not burdening me with guilt, but instead carrying the load temporarily, spoke volumes. They exhibited quiet strength, patience, and genuine care for the team’s success over individual egos. That supportive energy was contagious. It reminded me that when someone is busy or struggling, stepping in to help doesn’t burden you. It strengthens the whole group. And when the tables turn (as they always do in life), that same support comes back to you. In the end, the most important thing I carry from Amal isn’t just skills or a better resume. It’s this mindset: support each other instead of blaming. If someone is going through a tough time and you pick up their work, it doesn’t weigh you down. It lifts everyone. It builds trust, creates real impact, and turns a group of individuals into a true team. If you’re part of Amal or any collaborative journey, remember this: the strongest teams aren’t the ones where everyone is always perfect. They’re the ones where people show up for each other, no questions asked. Grateful to my batch mates, especially Neha, for teaching me this through actions, not words. Here’s to more support, less blame, and stronger teams ahead.
