Dirac, Antimatter, and the Physical Vacuum in rCVGT

From Dirac’s Equation to a Physical Vacuum
When Paul Dirac wrote down his relativistic wave equation in 1928, he uncovered one of the most profound structures in modern physics. His equation not only unified quantum mechanics with special relativity, but also predicted the existence of antimatter. Adiscovery later confirmed experimentally with the positron.
Yet Dirac’s success came with a conceptual cost. His equation admitted negative-energy solutions, which had no clear physical interpretation. Dirac’s famous workaround — the “Dirac sea” — treated the vacuum as filled with negative-energy states, with antiparticles appearing as holes in that sea. Mathematically elegant, the idea was physically unsatisfying and was later replaced by the formal machinery of quantum field theory.
The mathematics survived. The physical meaning remained murky.
The Relativistic Coherent Vacuum Gravity Theory (rCVGT) revisits this unresolved question with a new premise: The vacuum itself is a structured, dynamical physical medium. From this perspective, Dirac’s equation is not reinterpreted away, but reinterpreted more deeply.

Antimatter in Standard Physics: Correct but Abstract
In modern quantum field theory, antimatter is handled with extraordinary precision. Antiparticles:
- Have the same mass as particles,
- Carry opposite charges,
- Annihilate with their matter counterparts,
- Are described by the same field equations.
Formally, antiparticles can be treated as particles propagating backward in time (the Feynman–Stueckelberg interpretation). While mathematically powerful, this picture is not meant to be taken literally. It leaves open fundamental questions:
- What does “backward in time” mean physically?
- Why does matter–antimatter annihilation completely erase both particles?
- Why is the universe overwhelmingly matter-dominated?
These are not calculation problems. They are ontology problems.
rCVGT’s Core Idea: Antimatter as a Vacuum-Coherence State
rCVGT treats the vacuum as a physical medium described by:
- A coherence amplitude ψ,
- A coherence level Q = |ψ|²,
- A vacuum flow field uᵘ,
- And a physical time-rate field τ.
Within this framework, particles are localized, stable excitations of vacuum coherence. Antiparticles are not particles “running backward in time,” but excitations with opposite coherence orientation in the same vacuum.
In simple terms:
Matter and antimatter are mirror excitations of the same physical vacuum.
They differ not in mass or existence, but in how they organize vacuum coherence and time orientation.
Why Charges Reverse Naturally
Electric charge, in rCVGT, reflects how an excitation polarizes and reorganizes vacuum coherence. An antimatter excitation corresponds to the conjugate reorganization of the same vacuum structure.
As a result:
- Charge reversal arises naturally,
- Without invoking negative mass,
- And without requiring literal backward time travel.
The Dirac equation’s positive and negative energy solutions correspond to two coherence orientations of the same vacuum medium.
Matter–Antimatter Annihilation Revisited
In standard physics, annihilation is treated as a reaction rule: Particle + antiparticle → radiation.
In rCVGT, annihilation has a physical mechanism:
- Matter and antimatter represent mutually incompatible coherence patterns.
- When brought together, the vacuum cannot sustain both simultaneously.
- The system relaxes to a lower-coherence state.
- The released coherence energy emerges as photons.
Annihilation is therefore not mysterious destruction — it is vacuum relaxation.

This diagram highlights how antimatter fits naturally into a vacuum-based ontology.
rCVGT and CPT Symmetry
In standard quantum field theory, **CPT symmetry**, the combined symmetry of charge (C), parity (P), and time reversal (T) is fundamental and exact.
rCVGT preserves CPT symmetry at the level of observable physics, but offers a physical interpretation of it:
- C (Charge conjugation): reversal of vacuum-coherence phase.
- P (Parity): spatial inversion of coherence gradients.
- T (Time reversal): reversal of the time-rate field orientation τ.
Rather than being abstract symmetry operations, CPT transformations correspond to conjugate configurations of the same physical vacuum fields.
This means:
- CPT symmetry is not merely mathematical,
- It reflects the internal consistency of vacuum coherence dynamics.
Small matter–antimatter asymmetries can then be understood as metastable vacuum-preference effects in the early universe, rather than violations of fundamental symmetry.
Why This Matters
Dirac sensed that the vacuum was not empty. He lacked the physical language to describe it. rCVGT supplies that language by turning the vacuum into a real, dynamical entity.
From this viewpoint:
- Dirac’s equation remains exactly right,
- Antimatter remains exactly real,
- But their meaning becomes physically grounded.
Antimatter is no longer a mathematical curiosity or a particle moving backward in time. It is a mirror excitation of a coherent physical vacuum.
Conclusion
rCVGT does not replace Dirac’s theory, but it completes its unfinished conceptual story. By giving physical structure to the vacuum, it explains why antimatter exists, why it annihilates with matter, and why the universe can favor one over the other.
What began as an algebraic surprise in Dirac’s equation may ultimately be understood as evidence that the vacuum itself is the deepest layer of physical reality.
Note: The conceptual framework discussed here is part of the Relativistic Coherent Vacuum Gravity Theory (rCVGT). If these ideas are used or developed further, proper citation is appreciated.
