Post Growth Ripples: July 2026

How our work has been rippling out across the world this month.

Our mission at the Post Growth Institute is to uplift, co-design, and model approaches that equitably and innately circulate money, power, and resources in our local communities and global economy. Each month we publish an overview of our key activities and impact through the various pillars of our work.

Post Growth Events

From July 22–26, the New Economy Coalition (NEC) hosted a general assembly after more than seven years. Over 120 people representing nearly 90 member organizations gathered in Durham, North Carolina.

dani Leonardo (Director of Equity) and Priscilla Trinh (Director of Communications) attended to represent the Post Growth Institute. The assembly was a chance to foster deeper connections and identify threads for collaboration within the national network. It was also an exercise in strategic discussion and an invitation to collectively reflect on where and how solidarity economies can advance in our communities.

Over four days, a variety of activities activated our imagination: somatic groundings, field trips to local examples of solidarity hubs and Black history sites, member-led workshops (from playing with conflict to climate survival), regional breakout discussions, special guest speakers, dance parties, slow meals, and more.

The PGI is looking forward to mobilizing resources with the NEC team while popularizing accessible narratives to advance economies rooted in community ownership and care.

Affiliate Fellow Aisha Marzuki has continued to develop Jariyah Legacies, a body of work born from the content she created during the 2025 Post Growth Fellowship. Exploring legacy as value that continues to circulate after we are no longer directly holding it, the project has now taken shape through two distinct formats.

Jariyah Dialogues bring together cross-generational public conversations within communities already practising alternatives, while Jariyah Circles use specially developed prompt cards and a story-circle structure to move participants from reflection towards action. First used at an intimate women’s gathering in Johannesburg, the cards opened conversations about fear and money, the legacies carried through grandmothers, and the parts of ourselves people are asked to leave behind in order to survive systems not built for them. Aisha’s work is now moving into further virtual circles, surplus audits, and ecosystem mapping, extending her initial ideas into an evolving practice for communities and organizations.

Aisha also brought this work into a wider gathering of the Fellowship network in Jakarta. At the inaugural Jeda Tumpah Ide at Jeda Library, she facilitated a session on Jariyah Legacies, inviting participants to consider how giving might nourish communities and reshape economic relationships over the long term.

2026 Post Growth Fellows Cinthya Sopaheluwakan and Wahyuwidi Cinthya then led a collective exploration of the post-growth values and practices already taking shape across Indonesia. Together, the sessions explored how ideas cultivated through the Fellowship can develop into tangible tools and formats, while creating new collaborations and locally contextual spaces for inquiry.

Post Growth Stories

It’s coming up on one year since our last dual PGI retreat (Italy and Oregon, US) in September 2025, and we’ve been moving through the learnings since.

An old adage we like to work by at the PGI is that “slow is smooth and smooth is fast.” It took us nine months to write this reflections piece, for example, because we knew that the true value of our time together would emerge over time. It’s important that we trust the process, as well as each other. Catch up with all the tangible takeaways from our retreats and see how quality time ripples operationally through our organization.
