New Slang Revisited

I like this cover better. First, instead of attempting to play the instrumental and outro, I plugged in the intro riff. Next, I employed Dani Joy’s “mosey” strum, which fits the bouncy rhythm and fantastical lyrics. And a GarageBand-created and generated bass line this time. I think I used a metronome via earphones for my original cover. There are many 4/4 to 2/4 time signature shifts in this song. Most songs that do that, including this one, shift back in a few measures. Except when it doesn’t; the middle instrumental shifts, with no shift back within, as well as the outro. GarageBand does not lend itself to dealing with time signature changes, as far as I can tell. So I avoided the problem by substituting the intro riff. My recording is more sophisticated now; I use compression and equalization via pedals, and reverb via the mixer. I now play the backing track panned: bass and drums on the right, the riff on the left. This allows independent adjustments for each. I used the Sonnox Soften plugin for some post-processing. I can hear a quality improvement at the 85% setting.
