Really, America?

How many more will have to be slaughtered before you take responsibility for your rights?

How many more will be permanently scarred before you take the time to heal yesterday’s wounds?

When will you realize ‘rugged individualism’ is a mask you put on to hide your insecurities?

At what point will you stop pretending guns can provide any comfort or security when there are so many who are suffering right now, as these words scroll on the screen?

Take responsibility for your dark deeds, America. Do not turn away from the horror, let the screams of your mothers sear your memories.

Because your guns didn’t protect these children, America, and your money cannot buy their lives back.

The time for action has passed and the blood cannot be washed away.

Because every one of those children were American, and every bully is American, and every victim is American, and every grieving mother is American, and everyone on the ‘right’ is American, and everyone on the ‘left’ is American, and every loser is American, and every cold body is American.

The killer isn’t some ‘other’ person, or some monster, or something unknown.

The killer is American, and America is all of us.

Really, America, stop pretending that you don’t already know the truth… death comes for us all and the only thing we have to protect ourselves from ourselves is each other.
