The Top Three Ways to Reduce Gun Violence

There is gun violence around us everywhere and especially in the city of Chicago. Many people are afraid to go outside, go out with family or to approach police officers without being afraid of getting shot at. Some people have possessions of fire arms but should people have ownership of a dangerous weapon?

Seen in the chart above, there are some ways that gun violence can be reduced which can improve the safety of our environment. According to Key Statistics, every day, 321 people are shot in the United States. Some states may need to raise the legal age to own a firearm because owning possession of a dangerous weapon is not always taken into consideration.

Many people believe that gun violence is mainly caused by active shooters but according to the American Public Health Association (ALPH 150 Years), In the year of 2021, more than 60% of gun deaths were caused by suicide. Suicide is a quick way to kill yourself, and many people choose a gun to kill themselves because guns are very quick to kill someone. Murder is going 43% according to the Pew Research Center, gun violence is not going down anytime soon.

Reducing gun violence can help reduce suicide and less violence overall. Over 72 million people have possession to a firearm. Going through a background check, getting proper training and going on a waiting period are all ways that gun violence can be reduce. If people follow safety precautions then gun violence will not be much of an issue but it takes all of us to chime in.
