what you cannot even see

There’s something out there in the dark which you have not found in so much time spent searching in questions asked of streetlights, sidewalks, crosswalks you crossed and then found yourself on a corner you didn’t recognize it doesn’t look the same now as it did during the day. There’s something that’s not visible in the light, there’s something inside, something under your tongue in statements spit into sewer grates like I have all this skin but underneath there is just so much weight that must be where you’ll find it in insults spit into the grass where the sidewalk abruptly ends it tripped you when you couldn’t see your feet in favors begged of passing cars, you’re sitting on the curb like there’s something out there in the dark which I have not found and can’t they turn their high beams off? you’re blind, stone cold, and getting dumber, calling things yonic that you cannot even see and laughing alone in the middle of the street. There’s something out there, further than you’ve walked before, or closer to the bone, in check-swings failed by stoplights, hydrants, traffic cones how have you still not learned what you can and can’t take back? you’re blind and looking for ways to ease eating yourself alive you will not find them out there.

Notes

I’m an insomniac and have been known to wander aimlessly on nights when I do not sleep. One tends to find something new every time. Just recently I realized I can see Lady Liberty from the waterfront.
