Because showing up for women in tech isn’t a one-day event. It is a commitment we take seriously.

DevCareer celebrates the women in the community

International Women’s Day is a moment that easily becomes noise with generic posts, recycled hashtags, and gestures that fade by March 9th. This year, DevCareer has taken a lasting approach. Rather than marking the day with words alone, the organization put together a week of activities designed to create tangible value for the women in its community.

Here is a recap of everything that took place and what is still in motion.

Shining the Spotlight: Our Women, Our Stories

DevCareer opened the week by turning the lens on the women closest to the mission from both the team members who keep the organisation running and select community members whose journeys reflect what DevCareer is building toward.

From the Community

Chioma Ikonne-Okere describes her journey into tech as a quiet one. A DevCareer scholarship through Coursera was the starting point — from there, curiosity took over. She has since grown into Digital Marketing and E-commerce, and her advice carries the mark of someone who learned by doing: “Don’t wait for perfect conditions — start with what you have.”

Taiwo Olalere came in expecting a solo journey. What she found instead was community. “The biggest discovery has been realising how wide and welcoming the community is. You don’t have to do it alone.”

The CV Workshop: Practical Support for Real Barriers

One of the week’s most hands-on activations was a CV workshop, attended by 26 participants. The session was designed to address the specific gaps that often stand between women and the opportunities they are qualified for.

Topics covered included:

• Self-advocacy on paper — articulating achievements without underselling them
• Career breaks — how to frame them honestly and confidently
• Formatting — structuring a CV that works for both recruiters and automated screening systems
• Content decisions — knowing what belongs and what to leave out
• Live CV review — participants received direct, practical feedback in real time

The IWD Trivia: Celebrating Women Worth Knowing

DevCareer ran an IWD-themed trivia competition on LinkedIn, challenging participants to identify notable women from a series of clues. The exercise was as much a celebration as a contest. It was a reminder that the women who have shaped industries and history deserve to be known by name, not just by occasion.

Four winners have been selected and will each receive a Coursera scholarship. The awards are in the process of being issued.

50 Coursera Scholarships: Open to Women in the Community

The centrepiece of DevCareer’s IWD commitments is an offering of 50 DevCareer X Coursera scholarships, available exclusively to women in the community. This aims to uplift women and help shape their skills and career outcomes.

Applications are currently open and close on 14 March 2026. Women who have not yet applied are encouraged to do so before the window closes.

A Week That Reflected Something Larger

What DevCareer put together in the IWD week was not a single gesture. The spotlight gave visibility. The CV workshop gave tools. The trivia gave recognition. The scholarships are opening doors. Taken together, they reflect an organisation that treats International Women’s Day not as a deadline, but as direction.
