“I Feel Like I Am Booking A Legal Consultation”

If you are a Freelancer or an Entrepreneur I know you have been told these words or their equivalent from your Friends and Close Ones. “Every time I want to talk to you, it feels like I am booking a legal consultation. Can’t we just talk when we feel like it? Like the old times.”

‘No, we can’t. The old times are gone, this is a new era.’

Have you ever said this in your mind when your friend/close one complained that you are never available?

The Origin

All this starts because at the beginning of our Entrepreneurship (Read Freelancer anytime you see Entrepreneur, if you are a Freelancer) journey we have lots of Free Time.

We are just getting started, and so this means we have a lot of unscheduled time on our hands.

So. When our friends text, call, or impromptu visit. We are able to drop whatever we were doing and give them a reply, an ear, or even our full attention. They are the ones who tell us they are Busy as they have jobs, while we are flexible enough to accommodate them anytime they are Free from work.****

After all, we are extremely Flexible as our Business doesn’t require a lot of our time. It’s still small. So, we can forge time out of thin air. Waving a magic wand.

Don’t tell me that you don’t remember how flexible you were when you started your journey, while your friends/close ones were locked in their jobs.

Obsession Shifts The Dynamics

However, as Flexible as we are. This status quo of having a lot of Free Time doesn’t hold for long.

The more we dig into our passion. The more we realize we don’t know what we need to know to reach the level of competence we are shooting for. The more we know. The more we realize we don’t know. The more we know. The more we realize we don’t know. It’s a loop that gobbles up the majority of our time.

In short. We become Obsessed.

There are days I even go the whole day without checking my phone. Like yesterday. It’s as if I forgot that I have a phone. How much time do you spend nowadays on your obsession compared to when you were starting.

Obsession is like quicksand.

Before you know what’s going on, you fall deeper and deeper into it.

We only realize how deep we are into Obsession, when we hear that complain about our unavailability, “Every time I want to talk to you, it feels like I am booking a legal consultation. Can’t we just talk when we feel like it? Like the old times.”

This is the moment you realize that the dynamic has shifted.

**You are now the one who is locked in, you are unavailable most of the time, you are the one saying, ‘I’m Busy now, let’s find another time.’ Your friend/close one now has more Free Time than you. The tables have turned.**

If you’ve been hearing this a lot lately, I’m here to tell you that it’s okay.

It’s Okay.

Not because you are a bad person and you should feel guilty about your Obsession.

It’s Okay.

Because being Obsessed is a sign that you are committed to Mastery. You are committed to being Elite in your journey.

When you hear the Unavailability Complain, know that you are on the right path. Obsession is the key that opens the Success Door. What does success mean to you? …Money? …Fame? …Flow? …Fulfillment? …Impact? What does success mean to you?

Be Graceful

Next time you hear the Unavailability Complaint.

Know that it is nothing against you personally. Thus, no reason to lash out. It’s acknowledgement of your Obsession. The one prerequisite to be Elite in your Entrepreneurship/Freelancing journey.

So, don’t get mad about the disappearing accusation.

Simply say,

“It sucks that you feel this way. Just know that this is nothing against you. This is the best way for me to be fully present when we are together. Without being distracted by something else. Because, I want to be Present 💯% when we talk.”
