Five days. 250,000 visitors. Altman, Pichai, Modi — all in the same hall. Billions pledged. GPUs announced. And not a single conversation about what’s actually missing in every Indian neighbourhood right now.

We came to Delhi this week for the AI Impact Summit. And on the very first morning, outside Bharat Mandapam, we got tea from a cart near the entrance. The man running it — without us saying a word — made it strong. He’d seen us the evening before during the setup. One interaction. He remembered.

Inside the hall, the smartest AI systems in the world were being discussed. Outside, this chaiwala was doing something none of them can yet do: he knew his people. He knew his corner. He was paying attention — not to a dataset, but to the specific humans in front of him, every single day.

We spent five days listening to world leaders and tech CEOs talk about AI changing India. And we kept coming back to that chai cart. Because that gap — between what AI is being built for and what people in Indian neighbourhoods actually need — is exactly why we started PadosXO.

Every Indian City Has the Same Problem. Nobody’s Solved It.

Think about your own neighbourhood for a second. You probably know things about it that no app on your phone knows. Which shops are actually good. Which areas to avoid after dark. Which building has been dealing with a water problem for three months. Which family just moved in and seems friendly. What’s the mood in the colony right now — is there some issue brewing, some event coming up, or is it just a regular week?

This is neighbourhood intelligence. It’s real, it’s valuable, and it lives entirely in people’s heads and WhatsApp groups — nowhere else. No platform captures it. No algorithm surfaces it.

You know more about your street than any app ever will. The problem is — so does your neighbour. And there’s no place for that knowledge to meet.

That’s the gap. Not missing technology. Missing connective tissue — a shared space where what residents know can actually flow to the people who need it.

The WhatsApp Group Is Trying. It’s Just Drowning.

Every neighbourhood WhatsApp group in India is proof that people want to share and stay connected locally. Water supply timings. A missing dog. A reliable electrician. A new dhaba that opened nearby. Safety issues. Festivals being organised. Local businesses worth supporting.

The signal is real. The problem is the noise. Important information gets buried under good morning messages, unrelated forwards, and arguments about parking. Nobody has time to scroll back three weeks to find that recommendation for a good plumber. It’s there — somewhere — but it’s essentially lost.

Meanwhile, people in the same neighbourhood are making decisions without information that literally exists one building away from them. Calling someone from across the city for a job that a trusted local person could do better and cheaper. Not knowing about a community event happening this Sunday. Missing out on the fact that three families nearby are looking for the same thing they’re looking for.

We Don’t Just Want People to Know Their Neighbour’s Name.

That’s too small an ambition. What we’re actually after is something bigger: a neighbourhood that knows itself.

What’s happening in the area this week. Which local businesses are good and which ones people have quietly stopped recommending. When there’s a problem — a civic issue, a safety concern, a broken streetlight that’s been reported six times — residents should know about it and be able to act on it together. When there’s something good happening — a new shop, a community effort, a family celebrating something — that should travel through the neighbourhood naturally.

The small service providers who run entirely on word-of-mouth — the tiffin service, the tutor, the tailor, the home baker — should be findable by the people who need them, two lanes away, not invisible to everyone except those lucky enough to hear about them in passing.

This is what a real neighbourhood feels like. Most Indian cities had it once. They’ve slowly lost it — not because people stopped caring, but because there was never any infrastructure built to support it as cities got denser and faster.

The Summit Ends Today. The Mohalla Continues.

The India AI Impact Summit wraps up today with a Leaders’ Declaration and a set of commitments that will shape India’s AI trajectory for the next decade. The ambitions are real. The investment is real. India has genuinely earned its place at the centre of this story.

But when we walk out of Bharat Mandapam this evening and head back to our neighbourhoods, the same gap will still be there. The same WhatsApp groups, full of useful things that nobody can find. The same local businesses that survive on referrals that never quite reach far enough. The same residents who know things that their neighbours desperately need to know — with no good way to share it.

That’s what PadosXO is being built for. Not to replicate what the Summit celebrated — but to bring that same energy of connection, of intelligence, of things being findable and useful, down to the level of a single street.
