How did I start writing again?

I was doom scrolling on Instagram when saw a story posted by one of my idols, BINI Colet (*letters from colet*). She published an article in Medium and led me to open this website again. From memory, I knew I had written something 9 years ago. What’s interesting was that when I read the article I wrote, those words still resonated to me and is very timely on what I am feeling now: “How do you know you are happy?”.

One line hit me really hard from 2017 me.

I said “You know you are happy when you don’t feel tired every morning, when you want to get out of bed and start your day.”. It is amazing that this is still my mindset until now, a realistic gauge of how contented and happy you are with your life.

Now, back to the topic on how did I start writing again. I have always wanted to write and was journaling occasionally, however there has been barely enough time. But after I read Colet’s article, something struck and suddenly my thoughts are overflowing. I needed an outlet to let it all out and preserve my thoughts rather than just telling stories to my friends.

I am currently in another country trying to rediscover myself and make sense of everything that has happened to me so far, absorbing all the good, the bad, the ugly — this is for another day’s story. ;)

Just this evening while having dinner, I was retelling a story to a friend when I realized I sometimes forget details of a core experience that my friends knew the details better than me because they were paying attention the first time I told the story. And this is alarming since I want to preserve core memories.

Thus, it only makes sense to start writing and publishing again.
