The 2025 WNBA season saw another dominant season for the Las Vegas Aces. After a slow start, the team picked up right where they left off and won the title yet again. The season saw WNBA star Aja Wilson pick up her fourth WNBA MVP. But critics are wondering if she is going to need help .
Without Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces arguably could have not won as much. She is definitely the cornerstone of the franchise. But is it possible that she is being overworked?
The Case for Over-Reliance
In the 2025 WNBA season, Wilson averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. She is the only player in WNBA history to average 20+ points and 10+ rebounds in consecutive seasons.
Data from the 2025 campaign showed that her lowest scoring output (11 points) occurred during a game where the rest of the team had to pick up the slack. But their only loss in a major late-season stretch (August 2nd) coincided with her scoring low.
She led the WNBA in blocks and steals in 2025. When off the floor, the Aces’ defensive rating takes a significant hit. They don’t have another rim protector that has the elite defensive skillset like Wilson.

Inconsistencies of Jewel Loyd
One of the issues that happened over the course of the year was the inconsistencies of All-Star guard Jewel Loyd, who the Aces received from the Seattle Storm. In her first 25 games as a starter, she averaged 10.4 points on a rough 36.3% from the field (12–13 start).
After requesting to come off the bench however, her efficiency spiked to 42.3% and 40.9% from three-point range. The Aces have other contributors that have given Wilson much needed support over the years including Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray.

Added Depth for Las Vegas
But the Las Vegas Aces added more depth around her so she does not have to do the work alone. The team added a rim pressure dominant player in Chennedy Carter. The Aces also added NaLyssa Smith, who can be a second scoring threat in the paint.
Cheyenne Parker-Tyus will also provide veteran size and allows Wilson to switch to her natural power forward spot.
If the Aces can give her all the help she can with the talented players they added, this team will show no signs of slowing down.
