We Deserve Better..
Or do we?
We Deserve Better..
Or do we?
The easiest thing to do on the face of the earth, is to rant. There was a time when historians and philosophers wrote CTA’s in their daily pieces and attracted the eye of the masses which ultimately broke into a revolution and claimed back a nation. It happened during the French Revolution with the mischevious Robespierre heralding the entire scheme. It also happened with Mussolini of Italy and a host of many others. In recent times however, everybody is a self proclaimed philospher on the walls of social media and so, we have become numb to national outrage, to the frailty of human existence and to the popularity of what is not to be. Typically, we want to ask, “Are we running mad or this is the reality that has come to be?”

There is one matter to address here, “What is the reserve for the next generation?”
Let us address the issues now, shall we?
On the 28th of February, 2026, a popular social media influencer by the name “King Mitchy”, took to social media to applaud the “First Son”, Mr. Seyi Tinubu for givng her a whooping ten million naira. The King Mitchy in particular, is known for her philanthropy, renovating schools and putting smiles on the faces of people in her community. If the influencer was in some sort of raunchy relationship with the first son, she would have been cautious enough not to mention the gift to her until an agreement they both may have fallen through. Since it is clear enough that that is not the case, may we deduce that the money was given for her continued acts of philanthropy? If you examine the nature of her content on social media, she is either renovating a school or giving money to people who do not have….. This is typically the government’s job, so why is Mr. Seyi being applauded for gifting her that humongous sum when the right things can be done? However, those who know how to play politics said online that those who asked questions were being stupid.
We will not discuss the fact that this influencer who has more than a handful of Nigerians following her claimed she was being bullied and decided to drink bleach while on a live stream.
What I am drawing from this is that we have continued, as a nation, to bestow trust and leadership on those who do not deserve it like King Mitchy. Somehow, identifying with people like her gives us a sense of worth, emulation, a goal to solve issues that are meant for government with exception to social responsibility. People like this then grow fat with all the power they never knew they could wield and because there are no checks and balances, the end ultimately, is disaster. Yet, we have a divided mob of young people crying about mental health, clout, making light of the situation because nothing is too serious about the world anymore. This is why we deserve better, for the future of this nation we call ours. What will the social morale of young people look like if we are not able to put a bold foot to these inadequacies?
Na you know wetin you dey see.
Under the auspices of the “City Boy Movement”, the first son also commenced a nationwide distribution of fasting relief packages across the 36 states in observance of both Lent and Ramadan. The distribution was overseen by volunteers who made sure the materials got to vunerable families. What kind of family is a vulnerable family and what is making them vulnerable? Are those relief packages the solution to their vulnerability?
This is not an unknown fact but the way and manner the first son has positioned himself in his father’s government as the Grand Patron of the City Boy Movement is not worrisome but calculative. How many times have politicians lied about their intent for a candidate they were looking to push in after them? Is it too much of a coincidence that one of the City Boy’s children has refused to leave the markets alone or that another has engaged in questionable charitable activities with his Lebanese abi Igbo wife or that his wife has gone from news room to news room in the United States of America begging for a space to tell the world that there are no terorists in Nigeria? If you truly believe that there are no twisters in this, I wonder what rock you have lived under.
Again, we deserve better but we do not. We sit around like moping donkeys, waiting to rant. After the ranting, we wait for another round of eelctions to come again then we get misled with packs of spaghetti, salt and palm oil till the next election cycle rolls around again. The government is a refection of the people because the people make the government.
Sometimes, I imagine the President or the Grand Patron of the City Boy Movement coming across my stories. I bet they may fly to Dubai and ask all the governors of the 36 states to come and welcome them. Then, they will table my matter and describe me as a recalcitrant juvenile who should not be paid attention to.
That would be the beginning of the end if we have not yet passed the end of the beginning.
Kindly collect the relief materials because they will feed you for the next four years.
