Upon a Precipice
When Imagination Sets Me Free.

I stand on the precipice of a tall mountain, and the urge to fly consumes me. I look down at the gorge, with tumultuous gushes of river water cascading down harsh rocks, and I picture myself as a free bird threading a path through the spray.
But I’m not a bird. I’m 5' 3" tall, and if I spread my wings and try to soar, I’ll only plummet and dash against those jagged rocks.
So I stand on that precipice and enjoy the view, for that at least is a privilege available to me. And I admire the birds and picture the world from their eyes.
I acknowledge my limits, and for a while, that is enough.
