A Stranger Left a Note on My Windshield After Hitting My Car

These days, with my anxiety levels at an all-time high due to a major life transition, watching the news with all its gloom and doom stories only aggravates it.

However, once in a while, a genuinely heartwarming story comes on, which makes me smile and believe in good things and good people.

Take the story of Carlos from Florida, who found himself stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire and a dead phone battery. On top of that, he started experiencing chest pains.

So, it was like a godsend when three teenagers, between the ages of 16 and 17, came to his rescue.

Ryan, Eli, and Matteo noticed Carlos struggling to change his car tire and decided to help. But they soon realized that the issue at hand was bigger than a flat tire. While Eli and Matteo safely moved Carlos to the grass embankment at the side of the road, Ryan called 911.

The paramedics were on-site within a few minutes and transported Carlos to the hospital for evaluation.

When congratulated for their good efforts, Ryan said they were just happy to be in the right place at the right time and be of assistance.

It made me recall an incident that occurred some years ago in the parking lot of an Indian restaurant here in Boston. I was having lunch with my daughter when a lady holding a phone came in. She asked who owned a certain vehicle in the parking lot, as someone had crashed into it.

Unfortunately, the car belonged to me, and when I went out, I saw that someone had indeed backed their car into mine and completely demolished the front side.

The lady said she had caught it all on camera, and she was happy to share it. I thought it was very kind of her, considering she did all this while handling a toddler.

What was even more surprising was a note on my windshield. It was from the driver who crashed into my car, leaving his name and contact details.

Who does that these days?

I later found out it was a teenager who had accidentally stomped on the gas pedal of his dad’s Cadillac SUV, causing it to back out at high speed and crash into my parked car behind it.

While my daughter and I were waiting for the cops and a tow truck to arrive on that cold day, many Indians were arriving for lunch. They conveniently pretended not to see us or our crashed car in their hurry to get into the warmth of the restaurant.

In fact, an Indian guy was busily trying to back out of his car into the accident scene, and the cop had to tell him to go a different way.

It’s not that I needed a smile or a kind word. I am just saying, sometimes I feel it is everyone for themselves.

If this had happened to someone else, I, for one, would have stopped and asked if they were okay. It costs nothing and shows that humanity is not dead.

Once the cops and tow truck left, the kind restaurant owner and waitstaff invited us back to finish our lunch and wait there until an Uber took us home.

I deeply appreciate their thoughtfulness. It’s good to know that humanity is well and alive — in some hearts.
