(1) Tabula Rasa: blank slate will take the breath clean out of you, when you think the implications through, Tabula Rasa, blank

slate.

No memory, no desire, Nothing to bend you in any direction, No-one to sling you lower or higher No future, no fire. No prescience required No past, no regret Nothing for sale and nowhere to let. No genetic predisposition No-need to speak and no-one to listen Nothing is set. A new human being Not doing, Not making, Nothing to recall: High windows in an empty hall Setting off in free-fall.

(2) Every day I awake to a blank slate upon which the hieroglyphics of fate make their mark and spark a reaction in me. Nature or Nurture? Genetics Or the Environment? Heaven sent? Written in the stars? Twisted by chance? Let us make the best, inject some zest, reach for the stars, be kind: reject Inshallah, God’s will, no better excuse for abominations than ‘just obeying orders’. Free will means the responsibility is ours for how we spend the days, minutes, hours. For how we treat our sisters, brothers, strangers, children, lovers, animals mark how we choose to utilise our gifts of genetics and predispositions to decorate our journey into the outer reaches of eternity.
