Create your first GPTs — customized ChatGPT without coding

OpenAI recently announced GPTs, which allows you to create custom versions of ChatGPT without coding. Furthermore, they are going to roll out a GPT Store later this month (Nov 2023). There are huge implications with these exciting releases, but before discussing that, shall we get started on our first GPTs and explore?

GPTs are now available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users, which means you need to have either of these accounts to create GPTs. In the meantime, openAI mentioned they do plan to offer GPTs to more users soon.

Assuming that you have a ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise account, GPTs could be accessed directly at chat.openai.com/create or by clicking on Explore then Create a GPT in your ChatGPT portal as shown below.

Then you’ll be directed to below page, start with the left panel.

You could start building your GPTs under Create, Configure or a combination of both. Create allows you to build through conversation, while Configure sets certain parameters right right away. I prefer to use Configure first to set the basic idea of the GPTs, then add in profile picutre and tweak the details under Create.

When you are done with the basic settings, you could test out the GPTs in the Preview section, and make further adjustments under Create or Configure.

Last but not least, remember to save your GPTs by clicking on the green Save botton. If you are making updates to existing GPTs, the button says Update. You could choose to publish to yourself, to people with a link or to the public.

Take note that the builder name showing here is the name that you filled in the account billing information. If you click on the small pencil icon, further options will be available, such as publish to your website.
