A kiss is not just a kiss

Kissing in public, so hot

Kissing in public, so hot

I think kissing is a very underrated art form.

People talk endlessly about sex, but rarely about kissing, which is strange because a truly great kiss can be every bit as intoxicating.

In fact, I’d argue that some kisses are more memorable than the sex that follows.

Unfortunately, genuinely good kissers seem to be rare.

Looking back, I could probably count the great kissers I’ve encountered on two hands and still have fingers left over.

The thing people forget is that kissing isn’t just smacking your lips together. A good kiss starts long before anyone’s mouth touches anyone else’s.

It starts with anticipation. The look. The eye contact that lingers a second too long. The lean in. The slight hesitation where you’re both wondering who’s going to close the gap.

That tiny moment when you know what’s about to happen but it hasn’t happened yet. Then, finally, bam.

My favourite part, the antici…….pation.

My favourite part, the antici…….pation.

After that, there are a hundred little details that separate an average kiss from one that leaves your head spinning.

You’ve got to anticipate each other. The head tilt matters. Teeth matter. Tongue matters. In fact, for me, tongue is probably the most important part of a passionate kiss. I want to feel our tongues entwined. I want playfulness and connection. I want to feel your tounge asking me to come out and play, to invite me somewhere else.

What I don’t want is to feel like I’m being tongue-checked by someone who’s mistaken my mouth for a medical examination.

Then there are the teeth. Generally speaking, get them out of the way. Unless, of course, you’re doing one of my favourite things: the cheeky bottom lip bite. There is something ridiculously sexy about it.

Giving one.

Receiving one.

Catching someone’s bottom lip between your teeth and giving it a slight pull before letting go. It’s playful, teasing, and just aggressive enough to hint at what might come next.

The hands matter just as much. A hand on the waist. Fingers spread across someone’s back. A hand cupping the side of their face, or even two hands.

Pulling their groin closer. Refusing to let them escape. Let your hands roam.

A slight choke, a teasing hairpull.

Every touch adds another layer to the kiss.

At its best, a great kiss can completely transcend time and place. You forget where you are. You forget who’s watching. It’s like a good drug.

The rest of the world dissolves away until the only thing that matters is the person in front of you.

For those moments, nothing exists you and them.

I once made out with a woman in a pub who is comfortably one of the top three kissers I’ve ever encountered. I have absolutely no idea how long we were kissing for. It could have been five minutes or fifty. Eventually we both came up for air, looked at each other and just said, “Wow.”

Then she made a very interesting observation. She said our kissing styles were compatible.

The more I think about it, the more I believe she was right. Maybe great kissing isn’t just about technique. Maybe it’s about compatibility.

I love tongue, although not too much.

I’ve dated women who barely opened their mouths when kissing, and we simply weren’t compatible.

Equally, I’ve kissed someone who seemed determined to swirl her tongue around my mouth in endless circles like a Mr Whippy ice cream machine.

I didn’t enjoy it, but perhaps somewhere out there is a man whose mouth is perfectly designed for exactly that.

The point is that everyone kisses differently. What feels incredible to one person might do absolutely nothing for someone else.

The best kisses happen when two people naturally fall into the same rhythm.

The final ingredient, for me, is location, location, location.

I freely admit I’m an exhibitionist when it comes to affection.

I love devouring someone — or being devoured — in public. There’s something thrilling about it. It’s a public declaration that says, “I like this person. I want to kiss this person and I don’t care who sees.”

Whether it’s a crowded pub, a busy street, or the corner of a dance floor, the audience only seems to add to the electricity.

If you don’t kiss in public, then I’m hear to tell you that you are wrong.

A famous kiss yes, a great kiss …no.

A famous kiss yes, a great kiss …no.

Ultimately, a great kiss is a mixture of anticipation, chemistry, compatibility, confidence, and desire.

When all those things come together, a kiss becomes far more than a kiss. It becomes the sort of moment that stays with you for years, long after you’ve forgotten everything else.
