Is “Star Trek 4: New Horizon” a thing?

Is “Star Trek 4: New Horizon” anything more than speculation?

Various videos posted to YouTube suggest that Star Trek 4: New Horizon is in development. Unfortunately for fans, something we have to accept, there is no real evidence of this being true. The title New Horizon, fueled by fan speculation, is nothing more than a pipe dream.

Paramount, regarding the fourth Kelvin Timeline Star Trek movie, has not made an official announcement. The only thing we know, and this has been true for several years, is that Star Trek 4 is “in development”.

The movie, having faced numerous production issues, significant delays, and director departures, is unlikely to hit the big screen any time soon.

Directors attached to the movie included S.J. Clarkson, Noah Hawley, and Matt Shakman. Quentin Tarantino, proposing an idea based on the Star Trek: TOS episode “A Piece of the Action” (1968), had expressed a sincere interest in directing a Star Trek movie. Even though both William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart liked what it was Tarantino had been pitching, curiously, nothing came of the movie.

[embed]Video Description: Exciting new details about Star Trek 4: New Horizons have surfaced, giving fans a clearer idea of what the next chapter could look like. Rumors surrounding the return of the Kelvin Timeline crew first introduced in Star Trek continue to gain traction, sparking major anticipation. Behind-the-scenes developments suggest the project is finally gaining momentum after years of uncertainty. While official confirmations remain limited, insiders hint at a bold direction that could expand the franchise in unexpected ways. If these new updates hold true, 2026 may mark a thrilling return to the big screen for the beloved sci-fi saga.

The Showy, a YouTube channel, tells us the truth. It is not what fans want to hear. Fans want to hear positive news about the beloved franchise. The truth, while it is better than holding onto unrealistic dreams, hurts. Recent reports from CinemaCon 2026, held in April 2026, confirmed that the long-awaited Star Trek 4 has been officially abandoned.

It has previously been widely speculated that the fourth Kelvin Timeline movie will be released to mark the 60th anniversary of Star Trek: TOS (The Original Series). Star Trek: TOS premiered in the US on Thursday, September 8, 1966.

BBC One, in the UK, started airing Star Trek: TOS on Saturday, July 12, 1969. Before that had even happened, as history tells us, Star Trek: TOS had already been canceled. The Star Trek: TOS series finale “Turnabout Intruder” had been aired in the US more than five weeks earlier… Tuesday, June 3, 1969.

It has been hinted that Paramount, possibly leaving the so-called Chris Pine-led Star Trek era on the shelf, has been pondering a new Star Trek “origin” movie series.

Note that Star Trek 4 is not a reference to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, completing the story arc begun four years earlier with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), gave us one of the most beloved Star Trek movies ever brought to the big screen.

Paramount, making a distinction between the Star Trek TOS movies and the Kelvin Timeline movies, uses Arabic numerals rather than Roman numerals. Verbally, because they both sound the same, there is no difference between Star Trek IV and Star Trek 4. The difference is only apparent when the titles are in written form.
