Every word I think: A collection of poetry (Entry No. 4)

Mona Lisa

I want to be someone’s (your) muse.

The lady that the camera is focused on.

The subject behind poetry.

The woman turning you on.

The skin touching you freely.

The sweet smile being painted,

And the script being created.

The inspiration behind your original songs.

The Mona Lisa displayed on your bedroom wall;

The girl who didn’t get away,

Instead captured with every stroke of your charcoal

on a paper, you sketched on a sunny day.

Preserved in your memory,

Sitting by your side;

Eating the cake we baked overnight.

The hair you untie on your honeymoon,

The hands holding you tight.

The love that makes you want to come home soon,

The person who’s never out of sight.

I want to be your everything,

Your one and only.

The girl you love for all eternity.

Dreamland

With dreams that are stuck in the metropolis,

A girl wonders where her journey would lead.

While the moon battles for its place in the sky,

She rises and abandons the dreamland.

When sleepless nights turn to urgent morning calls,

One shoe left untied, she ran from Old Town Road.

The honk of a bus filled with exhausted survivors.

Commuters squeezing themselves onto a packed railcar.

The scream of a mom looking for her daughter

Whom she’s lost while they’re travelling far.

A father with a pushcart full of roasted peanuts,

His son will be released soon.

The old woman who sells cheap umbrellas,

Her house was flooded last month, in June.

The girl witnessed all these stories even before dawn.

Kept running, pushing, and paying.

Doing her best to get to a place she hopes to escape soon,

Alas! She’s just in time to start the day.

Tomorrow again at 4:30.

Endless hustle and bustle for a penny.

Guilty as sin

Every fiber of my being is drawn to you,

I always wonder if you want me too.

It’s senseless how much desire you can feel for someone,

Especially when connections are little to none.

I’d say “hey”, you’d look away,

I’d feel stupid for even trying to make you stay.

Yesterday, when I passed your way,

Every bit of my heart was screaming your name.

Your voice and smile, your hair, and those eyes,

Make me want to run a million miles.

For you, I’d risk it all. I’d set my morals aside,

I’d cry a thousand rivers; I’d leave it all behind.

The touch of your hands, I had a taste of it.

The electric rush it sent through my veins

Fogged my mind with thoughts I could never articulate.

It’s scary how a split second of heat turned my world around.

The monster within me was unleashed,

And into the pits of hell, she ran.

But hey, it’s okay, you’d never look my way.

My conscience will remain clear, my body unscathed,

The fire will only burn until a storm comes around to wipe my soul clear.

You are my dirty little secret,

The truth I intend to remain undisclosed.

A sin waiting to be committed,

A fall I’d willingly jump into.

You are, indeed, the crime I’m guilty of.

The mistake I’d atone eternally.

And I’m sorry.

Sonder

Swarming over the land are people from different cultures,

On a rainy Thursday afternoon.

Never the same story, but often the same grinds.

Deserted their hometowns to make it this far.

Endless wandering until they find their way soon.

Really, who wants to leave the dreamland?

Tell me

I’m afraid of what will happen after I’m done falling into the depths of your eyes.

Oh, how I want to call you mine; to fog your thoughts, to be the one you talk to at night.

Am I too early? Are things going quickly? Am I scaring you away?

I want to know, I want to hear; I want you to take me with you when you flee this place.

Just tell me, please tell me, and I’d listen to every word you say.

That smile that sends shivers down my spine, I want to see it ’til the end of time.

Too many feelings, but not enough to call love. Plenty of time, but uncertainty plagues my sanity.

I can’t rhyme. Oh, God, I can’t rhyme again.

I can’t rhyme because your name is the only word in my mind.
