There Is No Other Way — Work in the Spiritual Society

“…Since man is created with a Kli called “self-love,” where one does not see that an act will yield self-benefit, one has no fuel to make even the slightest motion. And without annulling self-love, it is impossible to achieve Dvekut [adhesion)] with the Creator, meaning equivalence of form.

And since it is against our nature, we need a society that will form a great force so we can work together on annulling the will to receive, called “evil,” as it hinders the achievement of the goal for which man was created.

For this reason, the society must consist of individuals who unanimously agree that they must achieve it. Then, all the individuals become one great force, where one can fight against oneself, since each one is incorporated in everyone else. Thus, each person is founded on a great desire to achieve the goal.

To be integrated in one another, each person should annul himself before the others. This is done by each seeing the friends’ merits and not their faults. But one who thinks that he is a little higher than his friends can no longer unite with them…”

There comes a moment on the spiritual path when a person begins to understand a terrifying truth: alone, he will never escape himself. Not through intelligence. Not through force of character. Not through inspiration, knowledge, talent, discipline, or years of study.

A person may hear the truth a thousand times. He may even agree with it intellectually. Yet inwardly, nothing changes. The heart remains locked. The desire remains imprisoned within itself.

And then slowly, painfully, one begins to discover why.

Because spirituality is not attained inside the isolated self. The spiritual vessel is built only in connection.

Everything else is imagination.

The human being naturally feels only himself. Every thought, every movement, every calculation instinctively returns to one center: “What will I gain? What will I lose? What will I feel?”

Even when we appear to love, to give, to care, somewhere hidden underneath is the quiet demand for self-fulfillment.

And this is precisely why the spiritual world remains concealed.

The upper reality is built on an entirely opposite law — the law of bestowal, connection, mutual inclusion, and love outside the self. Therefore, as long as a person remains locked inside his private vessel, he has no sensory organ capable of perceiving spirituality.

He can read about it. Imagine it. Speak beautifully about it. But he cannot enter it.

Because the gate itself rejects him.

And the rejection is merciful.

The disturbances, the weakness, the despair, the forgetfulness, the inner heaviness, the criticism toward others, the lack of taste in the work — all of these are not punishments. They are signs. They are forces deliberately arranged to show a person one thing only:

You cannot advance alone.

A person thinks he must fight the despair directly. Fight the confusion. Fight the fatigue. Fight the ego.

But this is impossible.

The disturbance itself is stronger than the individual because the disturbance is the individual. The person cannot lift himself above himself using the very nature that imprisons him.

And this is the great tragedy of human existence.

A prisoner cannot free himself from his own prison.

Only an external force can pull him out.

That external force appears in two forms: the Creator and the spiritual society. But in truth they are inseparable, because the Creator reaches the person through the environment. The society becomes the physical, tangible form through which the upper force can influence the individual.

This is why the entire work revolves around one point only: the importance of the goal.

Not knowledge. Not brilliance. Not mystical experiences.

Only importance.

A person never lacks strength. He lacks necessity.

When something becomes a true necessity, impossible to live without, human beings suddenly discover enormous powers within themselves. A mother lifts impossible weights to save her child. A drowning man fights with superhuman force for one breath of air.

So too spiritually.

The Creator helps only where there is true necessity. Not luxury. Not curiosity. Not temporary excitement.

Only existential deficiency.

But where can such a deficiency come from?

Not from the individual.

Alone, a person always falls back into self-love. The ego immediately anesthetizes him. It whispers:

“You still have time.” “Everything is fine.” “Others are the same.” “Rest a little.” “It is not so urgent.”

And suddenly years pass.

Therefore the environment becomes salvation itself.

Only society can awaken the sensation that one’s current state is intolerable. Only society can constantly elevate the greatness of the goal until spirituality becomes more necessary than comfort, honor, laziness, or ordinary life.

Without this pressure from the environment, the heart remains asleep forever.

This is why the disturbances are called “angels.”

They stand at the entrance to spirituality and refuse to move aside.

Not because they hate the person. Not because the Creator is cruel. But because the vessel is still missing.

The disturbances are guardians of the threshold.

They do not allow a person to enter spirituality with his ordinary egoistic perception because such an entrance would destroy the entire purpose of creation.

So they stand there endlessly, generating confusion, weakness, criticism, forgetfulness, despair — until finally the person understands:

“I cannot pass through alone.”

And then a revolution begins.

Instead of trying to save himself directly, the person begins to invest in the friends.

He starts awakening them even when he himself is empty. He encourages them while inwardly weak. He elevates the greatness of the goal for them while personally feeling nothing.

At first this seems artificial. Hypocritical even.

But this “game” contains an enormous secret.

Toward himself, the ego never allows true influence. But toward others, the ego is strangely capable. A person can inspire others even when he cannot inspire himself. He can strengthen others while personally collapsing. He can push the society forward while remaining inwardly broken.

And then the miracle occurs.

What he gave to the society returns to him amplified.

Because spiritually, what one gives into the common vessel becomes his own vessel.

If he worries that the friends become inspired, he himself receives inspiration. If he worries that they become strong, he himself receives strength. If he worries that they feel the greatness of the goal, that greatness enters him as well.

Thus a person exits self-concern not by destroying himself, but by transferring his concern outward.

This is the meaning of spiritual acquisition.

One buys the vessels of others through love, care, concern, service, and investment.

And suddenly the entire path changes.

The disturbances no longer appear as enemies. They become precise indicators showing exactly which vessel is still missing.

Despair points toward the need for elevation. Criticism points toward appreciation. Weakness points toward mutual support. Forgetfulness points toward strengthening the importance of the goal.

Every disturbance carries within it the exact opposite spiritual form that must be acquired.

Nothing is accidental.

Every force descends with terrifying precision according to the inner structure of the soul and the Reshimot (spiritual memories) awakening within a person. The upper light acts uniformly upon everyone, yet each experiences unique disturbances because each soul lacks different corrections.

And therefore there is no reason for despair.

The disturbances themselves are precious.

Without them, one would never know what remains uncorrected. Without resistance, there could be no vessel for light. Without concealment, there could be no independent attainment.

The obstacle itself becomes the invitation.

The wall itself points toward the door.

And the door is always connection.

Always society. Always unity. Always rising above oneself toward others for the sake of the goal.

This is why the spiritual society is not a social framework in the ordinary sense. It is not friendship based on personality, biology, culture, family, or shared worldly interests.

A true friend is only one connected to the same spiritual goal.

Because spirituality does not relate to bodies. It relates to desires, intentions, and the common yearning toward resemblance with the Creator.

Eventually a person begins to feel that all ordinary calculations lose importance compared to this inner necessity.

The whole world fades before the greatness of the goal.

Not because one hates the world. But because one begins sensing that only through attaining the spiritual vessel can true life begin.

And then the words “above reason” become real.

Above reason means rising above the immediate feeling inside the ego and attaching oneself to the higher importance received from the society and the Creator.

The disturbances remain below. But the person no longer enters them.

He rises above them.

Like jumping over a fire.

And suddenly what once seemed enormous disappears completely.

Because the disturbances were never truly powerful. They only appeared powerful relative to self-love.

The moment a person shifts toward bestowal, they dissolve like shadows before light.

Then one understands the great secret:

There was never anything blocking the entrance except the absence of a common vessel of love and connection.

And therefore everything returns to one point only:

The importance of the goal.

If the goal becomes important enough, all disturbances disappear into nothingness. Fatigue disappears. Despair disappears. Confusion disappears.

Because necessity overcomes everything.

And thus the entire spiritual path becomes the gradual construction of one desperate, burning, irrepressible cry:

“To come out of myself. To love. To bestow. To connect. To attain similarity with the Creator. No matter what.”
