The AI Boom Starts Not With Servers, but With Copper

AI infrastructure needs more than GPUs. It needs electricity, transformers, cables, substations, and new copper sources. In this context, NovaRed Mining (CSE: NRED, OTCQB: NREDF) combines the Wilmac Copper-Gold Project with AI application №19/680,101.

A data center may look like a technology asset, but its foundation is physical: megawatts, grid connection, cooling, power delivery, and copper. According to the IEA, electricity consumption by data centres could rise from 415 TWh in 2024 to 945 TWh by 2030 — more than 2.2x growth in six years.

This creates a strong backdrop for copper exploration. S&P Global estimates that global copper demand could rise from 28 million metric tons in 2025 to 42 million metric tons by 2040, or roughly 50%. Without major supply expansion, the market could face a shortfall of more than 10 million metric tons annually by 2040.

For NRED, this theme has a concrete asset. In the patent application release, the company describes Wilmac as a copper-gold project covering about 16,078 hectares, or approximately 160.78 km², in the Quesnel porphyry belt. The project is located approximately 10 km west of Hudbay Minerals’ producing Copper Mountain Mine.

The technology layer is also important. On May 21, 2026, NovaRed filed non-provisional U.S. patent application №19/680,101 under 35 U.S.C. §111(a). The application covers parcel-level mineral evaluation, integrated geological data, probabilistic scoring, transaction workflows, and document verification.
