Lawal Sade is one of the most experienced petroleum executives to have served within Nigeria’s energy industry. His career spans over thirty years across private sector leadership, international shipping, crude oil trading at scale, and compliance governance — a trajectory that placed him at the center of Nigeria’s commercial oil operations for more than a decade.

Sade began his career in 1992 and joined NNPC Group in 2010 after more than thirteen years at Oando Plc, where he served as Chief Marketing Officer, Retail. His transition to NNPC marked the start of a new chapter in which he advanced through successive senior roles in the Crude Oil Marketing Division, NNPC Retail, and NIDAS — the group’s shipping subsidiary — before being appointed Managing Director of NNPC Trading Company.

NNPC Trading Company is not a secondary function within the Nigerian energy architecture. It is the division responsible for the international purchase and sale of Nigeria’s crude oil, gas, and refined products — operating across three international trading hubs and processing volumes exceeding fifteen million barrels monthly. Leading this structure requires deep expertise in global energy markets, high-level commercial negotiation, and the credibility to represent Nigeria before the world’s largest oil buyers. Lawal Sade held this role and delivered documented results: improved operational transparency, stronger international relationships, and measurable contributions to NNPC Trading’s commercial transformation.

In the final phase of his NNPCL career, Lawal Sade served as Chief Compliance Officer — a role that exists precisely to ensure institutional accountability.
