A Macabre Mourning
An Animal Cemetery Built By A Princess
A Macabre Mourning
An Animal Cemetery Built By A Princess
On a golden Tuesday evening
Upon my home returning
My hungry stomach within me burning
I arrived in the backyard- biking
==
What’s that you say?
Isn’t your bike dead, the errant knave? (See Of Biking and Biffing)
Why, no. He lives though worse for the wear
His chain ever falling, tires bent but without a tear
==
After returning the errant knave to it’s native lean
Out of the corner of my eye I saw two large flies on the trampoline
On closer examination they were enjoying a cuisine
A dead bat, face up, was no longer a flying radar machine
==
This wasn’t like the time people thought I was born and raised in the Cult of Kthulu
Nay, I speak the truth –
Come and see, you and our youth
No, thanks — spoke the Redditor in blue.
==
Confirming w/ wife and children
No one had a desire to prepare said find in a cauldron
Out we went, the kids and I
To douse our find in hydrogen peroxide
==
Little princess moved our deceased friend
Across the yard to join the deer skeleton
Prince Patrick and I found it while feeding baby goslings
Our exploratory findings didn’t interrupt their jostlings
==
Three bunnies bothered by the bat’s arrival
Held very still — thinking that will help their survival
More hydrogen peroxide was sprayed on the deer cartilage, spinal
As we discussed verses for the funeral to use, from the Bible
==
Truly the princess built an Animal (not pet) cemetery,
From which soothing songs shall be sang in tones funerary
Our somewhat grieving souls to soothe
Snowstorm I and II shall not be moved.
(Our pet bunnies in our pet cemetery on the other side of the backyard.)
==
At the duck pond not far from home,
There are now 7 baby ducks with their duckly mom
There were originally nine — two have gone
To Duckling Heaven
Where they’ll wait for their siblings, seven.
In years past we’ve seem 3 duck families, one with children, eleven
==
Methought back a few summers hence
When horshoe crabs washed up beyong the buoy fence
At Rehoboth Beach not but two hours from whence
Exquisite souveniers I took home for a grand total of zero cents
The smell though made my wife and kids wonder if I had any common sense
==
But wait — a celestial party has been scheduled!
Our animal cemetery might need to be disinterred
Though now the remains are above ground
We shall find another home where they shall sleep sound.
==
It is said, Nature reflects our chosen path
And life brings to us what sent out we hath
It isn’t hard then to do the math
Let us choose peace instead of wrath.
