Absurd Beauty & More

From Photos of Our World’s Beautiful Absurd Randomness by Micaela Montaña, msm.com:

Some of the following posts are from yesterday.

Not all of the news is discouraging, my friends. Headline from nypost.com: “Construction worker returns $30K found in Wawa bathroom to rightful owner — who sold Pokémon collection to cover sister’s medical bills.” Mega kudos.

From NYP: “Strait talk: Trump admin declares ‘no dust, no dollars’ for Iran — Islamic Republic must give up nuclear material before sanctions relief.” It is by far the most important issue, the reason action was taken in the first place.

From NYP: “Horror show: Film buff finds lost 1968 vampire TV movie that was rumored to be so scary it was ordered destroyed.” Although I grew weary of the genre long ago, my interest is piqued. The title is No Such Thing as a Vampire, one of six episodes from the short-lived 1960s BBC anthology series Late Night Horror.

World metal health crisis update. From NYP: “Brains and brawn: Chess boxing is the hybrid bloodsport taking NYC by storm: ‘Real punches to the face, no gimmicks about it’.” And more in this NYP excerpt: “Three people were arrested, including two from New York, during a wild brawl that broke out at a community college graduation in Connecticut…” Commencement sites are now danger zones.

Another from the article above. As Jeff Foxworty said: “You may be a redneck if …”:

The comedy continues. Headline from newsmax.com: “GAO: US Overpaid Welfare, Medicare by $186 Billion.”

From foxnews.com: “Democrats who cheered $5 gas under Biden are now striking a different chord.” Anyone surprised?

One more. I bet this one was staged:

Last one. The Johnny Wad model ax:

I’ve completed the second draft of my latest short story, Forty. I’m happier with it, but still unsatisfied. I’ve resisted the familiar path to thriller. There are more than enough of those types of works out there.

Picture perfect weather after three days of gloom at the Anti-Inflation Book Shop. My thanks to local porter Robert, who delivered a cache of hardcovers, mostly sci-fi, and to the kind folks who made purchases, especially young Aleksander, who overcompensated me for a series on American History. To my surprise, since his English is very good, he’s here on a green card and hopes to apply for citizenship in two years. He would be an asset to the country.
