A Major Win for the Volunteers in 2027: David Gabriel Georges Commits to Tennessee

The months of conjecture are over. Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges has made his choice, and he is going with the Tennessee Volunteers in lieu of Ohio State or Ole Miss. Georges made the call on live television with CBS Sports, a welcome development for Josh Heupel and the Vols’ 2027 recruiting class.

Who Is David Gabriel Georges?

Georges is no stranger to attention in the 2027 cycle. Hailing from Montreal but making his reputation at Baylor School in Chattanooga, he has put together some impressive numbers. The 6-foot back, who runs in the 205–220 pound range, has a way of giving defenses trouble with his combination of vision, power and speed. As a junior he was instrumental in getting Baylor to a state title, racking up 27 touchdowns and over 1,700 rushing yards.

By the composite rankings at 247Sports, he is the nation’s №2 running back and the 10th best prospect overall. He was also Tennessee’s top target and the highest ranked player in the state.

The Commitment Decision

When it came time to decide, Georges had it down to three: Tennessee, the Buckeyes and Ole Miss. With a crowd on hand at Baylor, he declared himself a Volunteer. “I felt at home with the staff and the culture,” he said, adding that he was pleased with Heupel’s plans for the offense.

Why Tennessee Won the Battle

There were reasons to expect him to stay local. A drive to Knoxville is short from Baylor, and Tennessee put in the work with repeated visits and a good rapport with De’Rail Sims. Some have pointed to the NIL situation as a factor, but Georges would have you believe it was about fit above all else.

Ohio State put in a hard push for him and will be left to wonder what might have been; they saw him as a franchise back for their program. For Tennessee, it is a different story. They have secured their best-rated running back commit in some time, which should do the 2027 class’s ranking some good. With DeSean Bishop likely heading to the NFL after 2026, one can expect Georges to get on the field in a hurry.
