The Intelligence of Liquidation: Toward Network Intelligence (NQ)

We are entering a world that can no longer be navigated through rigid forms of intelligence alone.

Most traditional models of intelligence focus on preservation: safeguarding identity, maintaining control, and building structure. However, increasingly interconnected systems — whether ecological, technological, or psychological — demand a different approach.

I believe we are witnessing the rise of a new form of cognition: Network Intelligence (NQ).

Unlike traditional intelligence, which focuses on the isolated individual, NQ arises through responsiveness, adaptation, redistribution, and dynamic relationships within a network.

To comprehend this transformation, we can delve beneath the forest floor.

The Mycelial Principle: Intelligence Through Liquidation

In mycelial networks, growth is driven not just by expansion but also by strategic dissolution.

A fungal network does not indefinitely adhere to every path it forms. When a branch becomes unnecessary or more promising opportunities arise elsewhere, the network triggers localized apoptosis — a process of programmed cellular breakdown.

Old hyphae are decomposed, allowing their nutrients to be reabsorbed and redistributed throughout the system.

Nothing is wasted.

The old structure dissolves not due to failure, but because its energy is required elsewhere. This enables the network to undergo what biology terms a tropic shift: a reorientation of growth toward stronger signals and more viable futures. The system’s intelligence is evident not only in what it constructs but also in what it is prepared to dismantle.

Why This Matters

Human beings often resist liquidation.

We hold on to identities, beliefs, relationships, and internal structures long after they have lost their vitality, interpreting dissolution as failure rather than adaptation.

However, mycelium offers another perspective: intelligent systems endure because they possess the ability to continuously reorganize themselves.

In Network Intelligence, inflexibility becomes a hindrance. Sometimes, growth necessitates dismantling old pathways to allow energy to flow toward emerging opportunities. This encapsulates the essence of the Intelligence of Liquidation.

Introducing: Oracle of Mycelia

The ideas explored here eventually became the foundation for a project I am developing called Oracle of Mycelia. The project is not intended as a scientific guide to fungi or a form of spiritual doctrine. Rather, it functions as an evolving symbolic framework inspired by mycology, systems thinking, and lived experience — an exploration of how intelligence may emerge through connection, adaptation, and interaction rather than isolated individuality.

Using mycelium as a living reference point, Oracle of Mycelia explores how human beings process experience, reorganize inherited patterns, and develop greater sensitivity to the networks they already exist within — psychologically, socially, ecologically, and internally. In this sense, the project is less about interpretation and more about participation: an experiment in relational thinking and an attempt to articulate the emerging language of Network Intelligence (NQ).
