Why I’m Seeing More Bangladeshis in Sri Lanka Than Ever Before

Just a few years ago, hearing Bangla at a tourist spot in Sri Lanka was rare. During the last Eid holiday, it felt like almost every destination had at least one Bangladeshi family.

When I first came to Sri Lanka, meeting another Bangladeshi traveler wasn’t very common. Most of the tourists I met were from Europe, India, China, or other countries. Hearing Bangla was always a pleasant surprise.

That has changed dramatically.

During my recent Eid trip, I visited several popular destinations, including Sigiriya, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, and Galle. Almost everywhere I went, I came across Bangladeshi families enjoying their vacation. It made me realize how much Sri Lanka has grown as a holiday destination for travelers from Bangladesh.

I think there are several reasons behind this.

More Airlines Mean More Choices

Traveling to Sri Lanka is much easier today than it was a few years ago. Instead of relying on just one option, travelers can now choose an airline based on their budget, preferred schedule, and baggage allowance.

For many travelers, direct flights are the most convenient because they take just over three hours. If you’re willing to spend more time in transit, connecting flights can sometimes offer noticeable savings.

Eid Is One of the Most Expensive Times to Fly

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is how quickly ticket prices change around Eid.

Two or three months before Eid, it’s often possible to find reasonable fares. As the holiday gets closer and more people finalize their travel plans, prices usually start increasing.

During the last couple of weeks before departure, fares can rise significantly, especially on direct flights.

If your travel dates are fixed, booking early is almost always the better choice.

One Simple Trick That Has Saved Me Money

Here’s something I always do before booking a ticket.

If my travel dates are flexible, I don’t search for just one specific day. Instead, I check the prices a few days before and after my preferred date.

I’ve often found that shifting my departure by just two or three days or even within the same week can make a surprising difference in airfare.

Sometimes the exact same flight route costs much less simply because the travel date has changed.

If you don’t have to travel on a fixed day, this is probably the easiest way to save money without sacrificing comfort.

Compare Before You Book

Another habit that has helped me is comparing multiple airlines before making a decision.

Maybe that’s why I’m seeing more and more Bangladeshi families here every year.
