E-COMMERCE IN INDIA

In recent years, India’s e-commerce sector has expanded expeditiously and statistically, commercial transactions through this channel are currently the fastest growing of the country. Most of this has been due to the proliferation of smartphones and the internet.

However, in April 2020, due to the Covid-19 lockdown, e-commerce sites saw a lofty dip in the number of orders placed. This had primarily been due to the fact that the government announced that e-commerce businesses were only allowed to deliver essential items. It is worth noting that, since then, the number of orders placed has been steadily increasing,

Digital adoption was on the rise during Covid-19. Innovation has led to the unprecedented growth and launch of new digital businesses as a result of the expansion of e-commerce coverage. And unlike many other flourishing industries that were abysmally affected by Covid-19, the e-commerce sector became an essential part of almost all economic activities.

The Indian e-commerce market is projected to reach USD 111 billion by the year 2024 and USD 200 billion by 2026. By 2030, online shopping is predicted to account for 25% of the overall structured retail chain, rising to 37%. It is then estimated to generate USD 350 billion in sales annually.

Through providing means of financing, technology, and training, the e-commerce industry in the country is directly impacting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises while also having a ripple effect on other industries.

Technology-enabled advancements such as digital payments, hyper-local logistics, analytics-driven consumer engagement, and digital marketing are examples of technology-enabled developments that are expected to support the sector’s growth.

In the big scheme of things, the growth of the e-commerce industry will enhance employment, exchange earnings, revenue collection, and provide customers with quality goods and services.

The key takeaway for any firm from 2021 should be that most customers are no longer terrified of the digital environment, whether they are making purchases or payments online. People are entrusting large-ticket purchases as well as rapidly-moving commodities to online retailers. It’s an exciting moment to run a reputable e-commerce company.
