Judging a book by its cover

Have you ever found yourself criticizing people that you do not even know?

I have found myself doing it a lot. It happens even in recent days, when I checked Twitter and saw popular girl or boy bands or artists harshly criticized by people who have not meet personaly with these celebrities.

We do not know their character, their aim, why they do certain things, why they act in certain ways. We can only assume about them.

Maybe they are actually nice people, trying to help people but doing it privately. Helping poor people, animals. They do not need to publish every good behavior they have done, maybe.

Being very rich and famous does not equal being the most selfish, arrogant person. I believe power brings out only the real persona of a person. If a person wants to be a hunter and hunt down innocent animals, eventually he or she will do it no matter how much he/she emphasizes and lectures about morality.

Being not famous and not possessing any power does not mean we are fully innocent people. Judging people might also be the act of, ‘I do not have power, and I want it so badly, I will criticize you because you have the power.’

I believe claiming your innocence and lying to yourself is the most dangerous sin among all of them. That’s why satan got fired from heaven by insulting Adam’s creation.

Pure innocence has always had dark parts, secrets behind itself. By being most naive, most compassionate girl, maybe you’re claiming that I am so good that even if people left me, I would do anything to clear my conscience.

You saw a celebrity that went to a concert, and that concert is given by a dialobical man or woman. Everybody starts to criticize; ‘You are not a feminist, you are a bad person, supporting that artist..’ kind of stuff.

So, does that really make you a better person than they are? By not going to that concert, do you think you have a right to criticize people who went to that concert? Have you not done anything bad, selfish acts in your whole life?

How do you know? Maybe that person does not know that celebrity’s acts and crimes; maybe he or she just wanted to have fun.

There is also something that bothers me very much: people record people in public areas without asking or taking permission from them. Throw it into Twitter or TikTok’s claws and secretly maybe watch them to criticize and maybe irreversible outcomes for that person who got canceled.

Also, recording people without permission; is it not a crime, or do I remember wrong?

Just ask that person or think, reevaluate your judgment before making any comments that may upset or break people’s hearts deeply. We are people, not God or any angel; we are mortals, of course. Sometimes we consider situations from our perspectives.

Maybe the most important part is: ask yourself, why am I angry with people that I do not even know or have met? Why do I expect perfect morality from a person who has a huge popularity?

I want to confess that reading hateful comments sometimes gives me secret pleasure that they are not so innocent and perfect; they have flaws just like the rest of the people. I sometimes judge people by their cover. Maybe it is a survival mechanism, or deep down, I know I am not trying so hard to enhance my skills and upgrade my life.

Maybe this is a sign of low confidence for me. Confidence might not have come to all of us from our childhood, but it is our responsibility to fix it.
