You know, I was sitting on my throne yesterday and a piece of logic hit me like a ton of bricks. Valhalla was way better than Odyssey in terms of Assassin’s Creed games, 2nd generation. As I sat up thinking about all of the time I wasted on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it infuriated me to a great extent.
When it comes to Valhalla, there were things that the game did infinitely better and might I add that you had way more engagement in the game than you did in Odyssey.
While Odyssey was focusing more on familiarizing you with the countryside, sneaking around temples and intimidating the Oracle of Delphi, Valhalla was sending you on raids and offering way more for you in the upgrade department than Odyssey ever could.
So from the top, it has become heir apparent that Valhalla is, without a doubt, better than Odyssey. Granted, Valhalla came out intentionally for the PS5, there was little chance that Valhalla was going to repeat Odyssey’s mistakes.
For one thing, I never felt so bored running around killing the same enemies again and again using the same attacks with no sense of accomplishment. 5 stroke combo with nothing to show for it.
With Valhalla, your enemies have weak spots on their body and the challenge is using your bow and arrow to hit those weak spots hence making the battle easier and cutting off a portion of your enemy’s life meter which goes very far in battles especially with wild animals and Daughters of Lerion.
Naturally, in Valhalla the mercenary system is completely done with and gone forever. This was a nightmare in Odyssey because it forced you to give up a piece of your time and effort just to kill them stupid muthers just so you can continue on with your journey.
That took away from any fun element that Odyssey was supposed to have, with Valhalla, the worst you have to deal with is the 11 zealots which I didn’t mind because they were fun to fight and there were no more or less of them. Granted, you can stop them from coming altogether but this would only mess up your chances of getting Excalibur.
Plus, the Zealots were easy to track and sometimes they found you if you were in their direct line of sight which most of the time, might I add, I wasn’t. But, it was still good fun.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla stuck to its Assassin’s Creed roots, its like it went to the future, saw A.C. Mirage, came back to 2020 then smashed that game out and it ended up being awesome.
With Valhalla, you were far more engaged because there was always something to find, the materials upgrade both equipment and the settlement, its what made Valhalla great. Odyssey, you spent more time getting all kinds of stuff but none of it really mattered.
Plus, you didn’t get more than you were entitled to in Valhalla. The game did everything right as far as finding gear and weapons, you never had more than you needed.
Odyssey just ruined what could’ve been a good game by just trying to overload you with boring ass dialog and drawn out missions and don’t even get me started on the boat missions. Those outright sucked!
The DLC for Valhalla kept you more engaged than Odyssey. With Odyssey, you spent so much time trying to find locales and kill x, y, z instead of just enjoying the killing of your enemies while you’re making your way to a tomb.
Valhalla did it right in the aspect that yeah, you enjoyed the scenery and got treated to different ingots that were well worth the hunt, but you also got to chill in the cut without having to worry about getting killed by explosive arrows or anything like that.
When it came to the Order of the Ancients, Valhalla did it right. Odyssey, the Cult was all over the place and often times, in areas way too far to reach at that time. Valhalla, there was no sea adventures or sea hunts. Yeah, you need your boat to get the Spear of Leonidas and Odin’s Spear, Gungnir, both worth it by the way, but that’s it.
The river raids are great fun and you’re not just stuck in a boat throughout. Let’s face it, Valhalla did everything right and as far as the hidden blade is concerned, definitely a high point of Valhalla. Odyssey just screwed up what could’ve been a great game instead bored you with hours of monotony and monotone drama.
By the time I got to the DLC, I was happy to go Ireland. I mean, it was great, so great. I didn’t care for France and that’s okay because it was way better than working my way up Persephone’s ladder in Odyssey or trying to climb out of a hole in Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, for life!
