1. OpenMediaVault + Docker: The Launchpad

At the heart of our operation is OpenMediaVault, a free, Debian-based NAS (Network-Attached Storage) operating system. Think of it as the chassis of your server-car: solid, reliable, and designed to talk to all your drives. On top of that platform, we run Docker, the container engine that lets us spin up each service in its own lightweight “box” (a container). This keeps things tidy, secure, and easy to update no dependency nightmares here!

2. SMB Server: Your Network File Cabinet

First up inside Docker is the SMB (Server Message Block) container, which gives us a classic network file share. From your laptop or phone, you simply open your favorite file-browser app (the light-blue icon on the left) and connect to the SMB share. 3. Jellyfin: Your Personal Netflix

Next, say hello to Jellyfin, our all-in-one media server. Whether it’s binge-watching the latest sci-fi series or streaming your JPEG-tastic home photo album, Jellyfin organizes everything neatly and serves it up on any device. Grab the Jellyfin app on your tablet or phone (that purple triangle icon) and stream directly from your server no subscription fees and zero ads. Your popcorn game just leveled up!

4. Paperless: The Digital Filing Clerk

Got a shoebox full of receipts, bills, and random Post-Its? Enter Paperless (or Paperless-ngx), a slick document management system. Scan or upload PDFs, and Paperless uses OCR (optical character recognition) to index each file. Search for “electric bill April 2025” and it finds the exact PDF instantly. The green “P” icon on the left shows how you interact with Paperless’s web interface goodbye paper piles!

5. Tailscale: Your Private Magic Tunnel

Security is key, and that’s where Tailscale shines. Running as its own Docker container, Tailscale creates a secure VPN mesh between your devices home, office, anywhere on the planet without fussing with firewalls or port forwarding. Click the black grid icon on your phone or laptop, and you’re instantly on the same private network as your server, whether you’re sipping coffee across town or on a beach in Bali.

6. Storage & Backup: Duplicati

All these services mount to a central Storage drive (an internal or USB disk). But disks can fail, so we’ve built an automated Backup Data job that snapshots everything and zips it off to Amazon S3 for persistent, off-site storage. Now even if disaster strikes, your precious files, photos, and media live on in the cloud.
