But defending for 30+ minutes without trying to play out is where the problem started. Every time England won the ball — from goal kicks or turnovers — instead of keeping possession, they just lumped it clear. No composure. No outlet. Taking Gordon off was devastating as he was one of the few who could carry the ball and relieve the pressure. Why not bring on Rashford, Saka, or Madueke — wingers who can hold the ball and break lines during 60-70 minutes? You can’t invite that much Argentina pressure and refuse to play football. That was Tuchel’s biggest mistake. Defend was good, but you still have to play.
