OCI Release Notes: OS Management Hub expanded OS support

In this blog we will first cover the Microsoft Windows Server lifecycle dates and then we will see how the latest release OS Management Hub expanded OS support will have impacts and what activities will be in pipeline due to this.

Microsoft Windows Server lifecycle dates

With above timelines it is clear that Server 2022’s Mainstream Support end in October 26 and Customers who are on earlier version may move to Server 2025 soon.

Earlier OCI provided the option to provision the Server 2025 but the server cannot have OSMH service enabled.

What is OS management Hub

OS Management Hub is Oracle’s next-generation OS management service, delivered natively as part of OCI. It centralizes patch visibility and automation across Oracle Linux and Microsoft Windows Server instances. It’s included with an OCI Compute subscription without any cost.

Problem Statement

OSMH (Oracle Server Management Hub) was not officially support Windows Server 2025. Because of that, the OS version doesn’t appear in the dropdown. The profile windows_standalone_2025_x86_64_profile exists but isn’t mapped to a recognized OS version. As a result, onboarding or enabling OSMH failed for those hosts.

‘No Profile Available’ When Enabling the OS Management Hub Plugin

When selecting a profile for registering an OCI instance, you will see ‘No Profile Available’ if no profiles in the selected compartment match the instance’s OS version and architecture, or if OS Management Hub is unable to determine the OS version of the instance.

What Options we had

Use a supported OS version ,If possible, use: Windows Server 2022 (fully supported) Or earlier supported versions.

Impact

Once server mainstream support end you were not able to migrate to 2025 server with OSMH automated service enable.
