People Who Feel Like Home

A handful of friends. Years of trust. A blessing worth counting

“Aaj mann nahi lag raha yaar… milte hain?”

“Main bahar nahi aa rahi… tu ghar aaja. But haan, main kuch cook nahi karungi… coffee piyenge, baatein karenge, bas!”

“Nahi yaar, yeh bahut expensive hai… kuch aur dekhte hain.”

“I’m going shopping… kisi ko kuch chahiye?”

Sometimes, these simple everyday conversations say more about friendship than grand words ever can.

To have a few people with whom you can be happy as you are. Miserable as you are. Silly, loud, confused, vulnerable… just as you are. No pretence. No judgement. No pressure to look good, sound right, or be your best version. Just the comfort of being you.

Somewhere between growing up, becoming responsible, and learning to hold ourselves together, if you still have a few people before whom you don’t have to hold anything together — you are truly blessed.

There is something so beautiful about friendships where saying, “Nahi yaar, mere budget se bahar hai,” takes no shame. Where nobody cares what you’re wearing or how perfect you look. Where you can land up at someone’s home and say, “Chai bana de yaar,” as if it were your own. It’s your cozy little space where you can laugh loudly, dance badly, complain endlessly, cry freely, or simply sit in silence — and none of it feels awkward.

Maybe that’s why around such friends, a different version of us comes alive. More free. More confident. More ourselves. Somehow, around them, I feel stronger in my own eyes.

And the fun… oh God! We tease each other with all our might, pull each other’s legs mercilessly, laugh over things that would make absolutely no sense to anyone else… and yet, there is hardly any space to feel bad. Because beneath all that madness is something so secure — we know each other. We trust each other. We know exactly where the joke ends and where the heart begins.

Tea, coffee, dinner, home, mandir… honestly, the place hardly matters. Sometimes there isn’t even a plan. Just one random, “Arey yaar, bahut din ho gaye… milte hain!” and somehow everyone makes space. Because with the right people, even doing nothing feels special.

I feel so blessed when I think of these friendships. These are relationships we have made, bonds we have nurtured over years, and trust we have built little by little to reach this beautiful space where so much is understood even when left unsaid.

These are bonds chosen much before we even understand them — as if our souls were meant to find each other, walk together, and make life a little lighter along the way.

Maybe we were meant to meet, but what we built after meeting was ours — the years, the trust, the madness, the memories, the showing up for each other again and again. And maybe the kind of people standing beside us also reflects the love, trust, kindness, and goodness we have carried within ourselves all along.

The older I grow, the more I realise that having a handful of such friends is not a small thing. It is one of life’s quietest and most precious luxuries — to have people who are just a call away, who have seen every version of you and still make you feel, “Tu jaisi hai na… bas waisi hi reh.”

Thank you, Universe, for blessing me with these incredible gifts called friends. For giving me people with whom I never have to become someone else to belong.

Some blessings don’t come wrapped as achievements. They come as people who stay. And today, my heart is simply full of gratitude for mine. ❤️

And if this resonates with you, maybe take a moment today to feel thankful for those few people in your life — the ones you can call without thinking twice, laugh with without holding back, and simply be yourself around.

Because having people who feel like home is truly a blessing worth counting. ❤️
