Medium Rejected Me

Three Times and Never Told Me Why. Here Is What That Taught Me About Showing Up Anyway.

I want to tell you something that happened to me this week because I think it will resonate with a lot of you.

I got rejected by Medium three times.

Three applications. Three rejections. And not once did they tell me why.

Not once.

Let Me Walk You Through It

My first story went live on February 15, 2026. I wrote about healing, about nervous system regulation, about what it actually looks like to stop surviving and start living with intention. I wrote about motherhood, about grief, about relationships, about the kind of rebuilding that does not make it onto anyone’s highlight reel.

I became a Medium member in March. I applied to the Partner Program shortly after. They said I did not meet the eligibility criteria. Okay. I went back, read the requirements, and realized I had not yet hit the three-month activity mark. Fair enough. I kept writing.

By May, I had 14 published stories. I had been active for over three months. I had been featured in two publications, Women Write and Threads of Life. One of my stories had received 104 claps. I reapplied.

Rejected again. Same template. Zero specifics.

I sent a detailed email to their support team explaining who I am, what I write about, how long I have been writing, and asking for specific feedback on what was preventing my approval. I laid out my credentials. I mentioned that I am not just a writer but a wellness coach. That I have authored three books. That I write from lived experience, not from a content calendar.

Their response came back this morning.

Rejected. And this time with an added note: further applications from me will be automatically declined unless they make substantial changes to their criteria.

They closed the door. With no explanation.

Here Is the Part That Got Me

Medium’s own eligibility page lists exactly six requirements:

• Your profile is complete.
• You have published at least 6 stories and been active for at least 3 months.
• You have a bank account and file taxes in an eligible country.
• You are at least 18 years old.
• You have read and accepted their terms.
• You have read and accepted their AI content policy.

I met every single one of them. Every one.

So what they are actually saying, without saying it, is that there is a seventh requirement they do not publish. A subjective standard that no one explains to you, that you cannot prepare for, and that you cannot appeal. They just get to decide, with no transparency, and you get a form letter.

I am a mother of four. A woman who has lived through loss, survival mode, and the kind of rebuilding that most people only talk about in therapy. I write about healing because I have had to do the work. Not because it sounded like a good niche.

And Medium looked at that and said: Not for us.

Without telling me why.

This Felt Familiar

Here is the thing. The feeling of being dismissed without being truly seen is not new to me. I have lived that. A lot of the women I write for have lived that too.

You show up. You do the work. You lay out everything you have. And someone on the other side of a screen, or a desk, or a relationship, decides you are not enough. And they do not even give you the respect of telling you what you are missing.

That is not feedback. That is a closed door.

And I spent about twenty minutes being genuinely frustrated about it. Because I have 14 stories. I have readers. I have engagement. I have a body of work built on real experience, and I put every bit of myself into it.

But here is what I know from everything I have walked through in my life: a closed door from one source does not mean the path is over. It means that particular door was not mine.

What I Am Doing Instead

Medium is one platform. It is not the platform.

Substack exists. My own website, livingclarity.net, exists. Instagram exists. The women who need what I write are not all sitting behind Medium’s paywall waiting for me to get approved.

I am going to keep writing. Not because a platform validated me, but because the work matters. Because every time I publish something honest about what healing actually looks like, someone messages me and says I needed this today. That is not something a rejection email can take from me.

And if you are a writer reading this who has been rejected by Medium or by anything else, I want you to hear this: the gatekeepers do not get the final word on the value of your voice. They only get to decide what goes through their gate.

Build something they cannot reject.

One Last Thing

I write about healing. About nervous system regulation. About moving out of survival mode and into an intentional life. And sometimes, life hands you the exact experience that proves your own message.

I got rejected three times and kept writing.

That is the work.
