The Comeback Nobody Sees
The Comeback Nobody Sees

Three years ago, my life changed with a back injury and a left shoulder injury.
As someone who has spent years working in healthcare, I know firsthand that your body is often your greatest tool. When you’re providing bedside care, lifting, walking, responding to emergencies, and caring for others, your physical health matters. When that is taken away or limited, it can affect every area of your life.
The hardest part wasn’t just the physical pain. It was the mental battle.
My mind kept telling me, “You can do this.”
But my body kept reminding me that healing takes time.
There were moments of frustration, anger, sadness, and uncertainty. I questioned whether I would ever feel like myself again. I questioned whether I would regain the strength I once had. Recovery wasn’t just about rebuilding my body — it was about rebuilding my confidence.
Thankfully, I wasn’t alone.
I had an incredible support system, including two amazing physical therapists who helped me push through some of the most challenging moments of my recovery. They reminded me that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes healing looks like small victories that nobody else sees.
The road to recovery requires more than treatment plans and exercises. It requires patience with yourself. It requires grace. It requires the willingness to keep showing up even when the progress feels slow.
Today, three years later, I find myself standing in a Pilates studio doing things I once thought might never be possible again.
Am I exactly where I want to be? Not yet.
But I am stronger than I was yesterday.
And that matters.
One thing this journey has taught me is that healing isn’t linear. Some days you feel unstoppable. Other days your body reminds you to slow down. Both are part of the process.
If you’re currently walking through your own recovery journey — whether it’s physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual — don’t put limits on yourself. Don’t let one season convince you that your story is over.
Keep showing up.
Keep doing the work.
Keep giving yourself grace.
Your comeback may take longer than you expected, but it is still coming.
Three years in, and I’m determined to become even better than I was before.
Because healing isn’t about getting back to who you were.
Sometimes it’s about becoming someone stronger.
