A Mighty Harvest is Coming

Sometimes I wonder if my voice ever gets heard by those who really need to hear. I see people walking by street preachers and no one is paying them any attention. Millions of pages of evangelical tracts; billions of minutes of videos all over the internet. “Is anyone listening?” I ask myself. “Are people coming to the faith?” This parable from Jesus gives me my answer. It puts my fears to rest and sets joy before me so I can endure the shame today. What’s the answer that gives consolation?

“Matthew 13:48 When the net was full…” Let’s meditate on those words for a few minutes. ‘When’ not ‘if.’ Are you seeing what I’m seeing? It means all our efforts casting the net into the deep eventually yields a mighty draught! Truly, we may not see it now, but we will if we keep at it. There will come a time the net will be full. Glory to God! The disciples has a very similar dramatic experience of toiling all night and catching nothing (Luke 5:5). But the last catch was more than enough. Same same.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. Ecclesiastes 11:6

Don’t get tired praying for that unbelieving friend. Don’t get tired preaching to that unbelieving sibling. Don’t get weary aligning with the great commission. Jesus promises the net will be full. So don’t wrap it up. Hold on a little longer.
