My Most Read Story Each Month in 2026

Trying to figure out what brings value

June 2026

When I wrote this piece I truly wondered if my joy would translate. It’s about a place in Singapore that might be hard for you to get to if you live on the other side of the globe. But based on the generous comments I received it seems that the beauty of the flower photography felt uplifting in some way so perhaps my happiness did translate. I only write what I feel authentically. If I’m happy I’m happy and if I’m sad I’ll try not to force myself to sound happy.

I felt raw fear when I wrote this one. Often it’s a way for me to distill my thoughts and also reach out for comfort. And I am so lucky. You guys are always there for me.

Truly surprised me that anyone would be keen on this one. Perhaps I truly was revealing parts unknown. Perhaps I really did have unique knowledge to share having lived in Singapore my entire life. Social media makes it seem like I am an anomaly. It feels like everyone has lived in at least two places including my grandparents, nieces and partner, so in many ways I feel defective to be this confined and abnormally sheltered. I never thought of this as a flaw before but these days I do. Perhaps the unrelenting heat and crowds are getting to me and I find it hard to be grateful. I’ll try though. For my own sake. I’ll try hard not to gripe so much.

March 2026

I don’t write about politics but I was so troubled by the war in the Middle East I had to express my feelings here. I was most likely not alone in feeling this way. Just the start of much uncertainty to come.

I wasn’t very active this month but this story about what my days are like in Singapore resonated. I should do more like this as looking back on this makes me feel a kind of satisfaction that the days are not as dull as I imagine.

January 2026

I shared a cancer milestone I reached. 10 years since diagnosis.

Out of all the stories above (first half of 2026), the April one was the most popular.

3 out of the 6 stories appeared in my Publication, Tourist In My Own Country (TIMOC) – June, April and February – while the rest were self published touching on mental health.

Whether it’s joy or fear, being honest and open is what draws people in. It’s the same for me when I read your pieces. Or if you have unique experience in your home country and are able to teach me something completely unique.
