From Code to Calling: Why My Purpose Goes Beyond the Keyboard
For almost ten years, I’ve worked in the world of computer programming (coding). With a degree in computer science and a decade of experience working in IT, I learned how to break down complex problems, think logically, and optimize resources. Programming gave me structure and the satisfaction of solving real problems logically.
But when the screen turns off and I sit in silence, something deeper begins to speak. A quiet voice reminds me that while coding is a means to livelihood, it may not be the purpose I was designed to fulfil.
Friends, mentors, and loved ones have often asked:
What comes naturally to you? What would you do if time, money, and expectations weren’t constraints? What motivates you to wake up each day?
It’s not coding. It’s not athletics or cooking or rocket science. I’m not a master of any one thing. I’m not a prodigy. I’m average in many ways — a jack of all trades, good enough to adapt but never ground-breaking.
But when I picture a life of freedom — infinite time, unlimited resources, no obligations — the activities that draw me in are crystal clear:
• Pursuing physical mastery at desired time and place, not for glory, but for discipline, health, and confidence.
• Understanding sports biomechanics, unlocking movements, learning how the human body performs hard things.
• Eating clean, enjoying the process of nourishing myself.
• Loving my partner (Hopefully she will find me one day :))
• And most of all, helping the elderly.
Yes, the elderly. The old souls.
It’s strange, isn’t it? How one of the most overlooked groups in our society holds the key to my purpose.
I’ve always had this bond with older people. Maybe it’s my height. Maybe it’s my eyes — I’ve been told they look like a dog’s or a bunny’s — harmless, loyal, curious. Whatever it is, old people often take to me instantly, like a playful grandson who they feel protective about. And I, in turn, feel this immense respect and warmth for them.
They give me a kind of love and honesty that’s hard to find elsewhere.
And I’ve come to realize something radical: Old people are untapped Human Resources.
We talk about experience, wisdom, and resilience as if they’re assets. But we ignore the people who actually embody those qualities. Retired individuals are reservoirs of stories, skills, insights, and empathy. But as a society, we isolate them. We strip them of purpose, income, dignity — the very things that make life meaningful.
But I see something else:
• Individuals who have lived through change, who can guide us through it.
• People who still want to contribute, teach, share, move, and be seen.
• Wisdom that can fuel the growth of younger generations — if only we create the right bridge.
This year, I want to build that bridge. I want to:
• Monetize their experience by connecting them with youth who can learn from their life journeys.
• Digitally empower them so they are no longer excluded from the modern world.
• Create purpose-driven communities where they feel respected, needed, and heard.
• Promote mobility and health, so they can live with dignity and independence.
• Provide them with the human touch — the warmth, care, and respect that makes them feel truly seen and loved.
Maybe my years in tech weren’t wasted. Maybe they were preparing me to solve a very different kind of problem — one not found in any system architecture diagram, but in the fabric of our society.
I don’t know how exactly this journey will unfold. I don’t have a 10-year plan or a polished pitch deck (yet). But I do know this: I’ve spent too long ignoring the voice inside me. And this year, I choose to listen.
It’s not about leaving behind one world for another. It’s about weaving together everything I’ve learned — in code, in silence, in conversations with the elderly — to build something that truly matters.
If you, too, believe in creating a world where older people are not sidelined but celebrated — where their wisdom fuels the next generation — I’d love to connect and understand how this could be brought into fruition.
