An autistic six-year-old boy jumped out of a second-story window and then tested positive for cocaine at the hospital, according to police.

The disturbing case of neglect occurred in Fairmont, a West Virginia city about 90 miles south of Pittsburgh, according to a criminal complaint filed in the Marion County Magistrate Court.

The boy’s mother, Stevie Thibodeaux, 30, has been charged with gross neglect of a child creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury, which is a felony.

The autistic six-year-old boy jumped from a second-story window in this apartment complex in Fairmont, West Virginia.

The child was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for evaluation following the fall.

Authorities said Child Protective Services notified law enforcement that the boy had tested positive for cocaine while receiving treatment.

After receiving that information, investigators obtained a search warrant for the apartment.

Court documents cited by local media outlets state that deputies located drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance on a plate inside the residence during the search.

Thibodeaux arrived at the apartment while deputies were conducting the search and was taken into custody, according to WBOY.

She agreed to speak with investigators and allegedly admitted to ingesting cocaine inside the apartment.

Thibodeaux told deputies she had been asleep when her child jump/fell out of the second-story window.

Investigators said the window was also missing a screen.

Thibodeaux is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond, according to the jail’s records. It appears that she has not yet entered a plea.

The condition of the child has not been publicly released.

The case is still under investigation.
