Day 18 of Learning German 🇩🇪 — I Learned Real-Life Vocabulary (Food, Places, and Daily Situations)
For the past 17 days, I’ve been learning German step by step.
Words. Questions. Conversations. Listening. Speaking. Longer answers.
Yesterday, I focused on giving better and longer answers.
That helped my conversations feel more natural.
But today, I noticed something important.
I can speak… but only about a few topics.
And real conversations need real-life vocabulary.
So today, I focused on:
👉 Learning words I can actually use every day.
Things like food, places, and daily situations.
🚀 Why Real-Life Vocabulary Matters
Until now, I could say things like:
- I learn German
- I am happy
- I come from Bangladesh
That’s useful.
But what about:
- Ordering food?
- Going to the supermarket?
- Asking for water?
- Talking about where I am going?
That’s real life.
So I asked myself:
“Can I survive a simple day in German?”
That became today’s goal.
🧠 What I Focused On Today
I kept it practical:
- Food vocabulary
- Common places
- Daily situation sentences
Not advanced grammar.
Just useful words.
🍎 Food Vocabulary I Learned
Today I learned:
- das Wasser — water
- das Brot — bread
- der Kaffee — coffee
- das Frühstück — breakfast
- das Abendessen — dinner
🔊 With Pronunciation
- Wasser (VAH-ser)
- Brot (broht)
- Kaffee (kah-FAY)
- Frühstück (FROOSH-took)
- Abendessen (AH-bent-es-sen)
🏪 Places Vocabulary
I also learned common places:
- der Supermarkt — supermarket
- das Restaurant — restaurant
- die Schule — school
- das Haus — house
- die Arbeit — work/job
🔊 With Pronunciation
- Supermarkt (ZOO-per-markt)
- Restaurant (res-tow-RAHNT)
- Schule (SHOO-luh)
- Haus (hows)
- Arbeit (AR-bye-t)
💬 Useful Real-Life Sentences
Then I started building practical sentences:
- Ich trinke Wasser (ikh TRINK-uh VAH-ser) → I drink water
- Ich gehe zum Supermarkt (ikh GAY-uh tsoom ZOO-per-markt) → I go to the supermarket
- Ich esse Frühstück (ikh ESS-uh FROOSH-took) → I eat breakfast
- Ich arbeite heute (ikh AR-bye-tuh HOY-tuh) → I work today
🤯 The Challenge — Remembering Articles
This part was harder than expected.
German words have:
- dern
- die
- das
And I kept forgetting which one belongs to which word.
At first, I thought:
“Why does bread need a gender?”
It felt strange.
💡 What Helped Me
I stopped learning words alone.
Instead of:
❌ Brot
I learned:
✅ das Brot
This made memory stronger.
🔁 Practice Method
Today I used simple repetition:
- Read the word
- Say it out loud
- Use it in a sentence
Example:
- das Wasser
- Ich trinke Wasser
This helped a lot.
🔊 Speaking Practice
I practiced like I was in real life:
Ich gehe zum Supermarkt. Ich kaufe Brot und Wasser. Ich trinke Kaffee am Morgen.
This made learning feel practical.
⚠️ What Felt Difficult
Let’s be honest.
Today had challenges:
- Remembering articles
- Pronouncing new words
- Using vocabulary fast in conversation
Sometimes I mixed words.
💡 What Helped Me Improve
I kept things simple:
- Only useful words
- Real examples
- Speaking every sentence aloud
That made it easier.
🧠 What I Realized Today
This was important:
Vocabulary becomes powerful only when you use it.
Not when you memorize it.
🎯 What I Learned Today
- Real-life vocabulary builds confidence
- Learn nouns with articles
- Speaking helps memory
- Practical words matter most
🔥 What’s Next?
Now that I know more useful vocabulary…
Tomorrow, I want to:
Learn how to order food and handle simple restaurant conversations in German.
That sounds exciting.
💬 Final Thoughts
Day 18 felt very practical.
Because today…
German felt useful in real life.
If you’re learning German too, start with this:
Learn the words you actually need.
That’s where confidence begins.
