Hyundai N Vision 74: A Retro-Futuristic Concept Car from Korea Rumored to Enter Production

Since its debut in 2022 alongside the RN22E, the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept car has captured the attention of many automotive enthusiasts.

This vehicle, which will be powered by a hydrogen engine or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) technology, boasts a uniquely striking design. It embodies a retro-futuristic concept inspired by The Pony Coupe Concept launched in 1974, which also influenced its name, N Vision 74.

From its initial unveiling, the N Vision 74 has been compared to the DeLorean DMC-12, famously popularized by the “Back to the Future” film series, where it served as a time machine.

However, unlike the RN22E, which is set to evolve into the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N and has already entered the testing phase, the N Vision 74 was never officially announced for production.

The CEO’s Investor Hyundai 2024 statement brought renewed hope to automotive enthusiasts eagerly awaiting news about the N Vision 74. It was announced that Hyundai plans to release 21 electric vehicles by 2030.

Although the announcement only mentioned “Vision,” which doesn’t necessarily refer to the N Vision 74, there are currently no other Hyundai concept cars with the “vision” moniker.

Hyundai also showcased the N Vision 74 in Indonesia at the GIIAS 2024 event held at ICE BSD last July. The car undoubtedly stood out as one of the most eye-catching vehicles, garnering significant attention.

The Hyundai N Vision 74 employs two electric motors mounted on the rear wheels, giving it a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration. Using dual electric motors allows optimal power distribution, resulting in rapid acceleration and responsive performance.

The combination of an electric battery and hydrogen fuel cells enables this car to generate up to 670 hp and 900 Nm of torque, making it one of the highest-performing concept cars in its class.

With its hybrid hydrogen and electric battery power sources, the Hyundai N Vision 74 can travel up to 600 kilometers on a single hydrogen fill. Refueling the hydrogen tank takes only about 5 minutes, making it more practical compared to pure electric battery charging, which requires more time.

However, with hydrogen refueling infrastructure still severely limited worldwide, the prospect of the N Vision 74’s arrival with its hydrogen-powered drivetrain seems increasingly distant. We’ll have to wait and see how Hyundai continues the story of this concept car.
