Imagination Tech releases OpenSource driver for higher end IMG BXS-4–64 GPUs

Imagination Technologies has announced the next milestone in open-source PowerVR GPU driver development, unveiling an updated driver stack for Texas Instruments (TI) SoCs featuring the higher-performance IMG BXS-4–64 GPU.

Ti Beagle Play already previously supported by Open PowerVR drivers

The release includes full support for TI’s Sitara AM67, AM68, AM69, and TDA4x series SoCs, and provides compatibility with development boards such as the TI AM68 and AM69 Starter Kits, as well as the BeagleY-AI. Additionally, support continues for the AXE-1–16M GPU used in the AM62 SoC, with boards like the TI AM625 Starter Kit and BeaglePlay available for development.

Key components of the open-source stack include:

• A Linux kernel driver (BXS-4–64 support merging scheduled for kernel v6.16)
• Vulkan 1.0 support via Mesa
• GLES 3.1 compatibility through the Zink translation layer
• GPU firmware and extended documentation, including register descriptions for the Rogue architecture and a detailed ISA reference
