From E-Rickshaw to E-Scooter in 3 Mins — Unveiling the Surge S32

The hero-owned startup, Surge, unveiled the revolutionary Surge S32 at Hero World 2024, stealing attention alongside Mavrick 440 and Xtreme 125R.

Developed within HeroHatch, the modular electric vehicle (EV) seamlessly transforms from an e-rickshaw to an e-scooter in just 3 minutes.

The transformation process is activated by a button, lifting the front windshield vertically and revealing the concealed e-scooter, all while the cabin undergoes a swift metamorphosis through a spring-loaded double-swing mechanism.

The interior of Surge S32 hosts a rickshaw structure without a front wheel, accommodating the e-scooter as the front wheel. It also has other features such as a windscreen, LED headlights, optional weather-protective soft doors, and more.

The Surge S32 boasts a versatile powertrain, with the scooter reaching a peak output of 6kW and the rickshaw at 10kW. Maximum speeds are 60kph and 45kph for the scooter and rickshaw configurations, respectively.

The Surge S32 uses removable batteries from Hero’s Vida electric scooter, offering a scooter battery capacity of 3.87kWh and a rickshaw capacity of up to 11.62kWh.

Having evolved from the Quark 1 concept in 2020, the Surge S32 is nearing production-ready status, with an official launch planned later this year.

In a pioneering move, Surge and Hero collaborated with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to establish a unique registration category, ‘L2 -5’, defining it as a “2-Wheeler-3-Wheeler Combi Module of a three-wheeled motor vehicle.”
