The Sweetest Blood money

“Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter” is more of the same cruel recycled garbage we have seen over four movies with Joesph Zeto now in the director’s chair. The producers claim this is the last one, you know that’s a crock, and on that note, so is this movie. Jason can’t seem to stay dead because the producers love that sweet blood money and shamefully keep making this garbage where teenage idiots can’t seem to stop running into him. Let’s all run out into the rain or the woods where Jason (Ted White) is waiting to hack them up, and this movie has an even higher body count than the last.

It opens where “Part III” left off, with all the teenagers dead and the cops cleaning up the previous mess. Jason’s lifeless body is found in the barn with the axe in his head and loaded into an ambulance. What I would like to know is where are the girls from the previous films. Ginny, Chris and, well, Alice, they stupidly killed in “Part 2,” but where are the other two ladies? Did they recover? Are they catatonic? I suppose it doesn’t matter because the continuity gets thrown out the window as the producers don’t care when it’s on to who can be killed next in graphic detail.

The Hockey Mask killer awakens in the city morgue where he slaughters a perverted hospital orderly and guts a nurse before heading back to Camp Crystal Lake or somewhere nearby. Jason sets his sights on the Jarvis family: Mrs. Jarvis (Joan Freeman,) her daughter Trish (Kimberly Beck,) her son, Tommy (Corey Feldman) and another group of mornic teenagers, each one dumber than the last. Crispin Glover plays a hapless teen, Jimmy, who dances like a tool and is nerotic to the bone. Ted (Lawrence Monoson,) his cocky best friend and a plethora of other kids I can’t remember.

The teens have rented the Cabin next door to the Jarvis family’s house and plan on partying for the weekend. These characters are instantly unlikeable. They all have the intelligence of a squirrel, and the Jimmy kid is annoying. The Ted kid has the intelligence of a cork. The Jarvis family, however, it’s a shame they are in this movie.

Even more stupid is a poorly written hunter, Rob (Erich Anderson,) who claims he is hunting bears when he wants Jason. Why? His sister was the pinhead blonde in “Part 2” who got shish kabooed with her boyfriend. So, was that two weeks ago? Four days ago? He seems to know it was Jason quickly. He meets with Trish and Tommy and claims his car broke down or something stupid and needs a lift.

Tommy Jarvis is the heart and soul of the movie, if there is any. He is a mini Tom Savini who is the super effects wizard behind this violent chaos. He is a loveable little dork who likes making Monster masks. Tommy plays the biggest part in this movie.

Once the mayhem begins, it doesn’t stop until the end, and this film is graphically violent. One girl is impaled, naked, on a raft in the Lake. Corkscrews and Clevers, Axes and Knives. Jason cuts the power and descendes upon the house. One of the teens gets violently crushed in the shower. Another teen gets corkscrewed. You see these kids 30 mins before they start getting killed, and Is nothing more there than violent slaughter throughout.

After the lights go down and people start getting picked off one by one in increasingly gruesome ways, the Clever scene is probably the most disturbing scene among many, but it seems to be this male fantasy to be able to watch people getting ripped up that causes me concern and the amount of money these movies make is of even more concern. This movie is quite possibly the most brutal and alarming of them all.

Here’s an example: The Jimmy kid gets killed, and his body is strung up on the door frame only for Jason to rip him down like Jason is supposed to have a sense of humour instead of just being a hulking menace. Yeah, Jimmy was annoying, and there is always a weirdo kid. Last time, It was Shelly, and it seems to be the lonely teens that are the gorest targets, but the gruesome nature of this character’s fate is one of sick fantasy.

While everyone is having sex and getting killed, Trish finds Rob at his campsite, and he reveals that he is looking for Jason to get revenge for his sister, only to end up killed moments later in the basement. I will admit Rob yelling, “he’s killing me,” was unnerving, but he is only in this movie to get killed.

Eventually, it all accumulates in the Jarvis house, and Tommy cooks up an idea to fool Jason, which is clever, but there seems to be a looser connection to this movie than the previous installments because there is zero development and zero reason to care for anyone, and when they die in gruesome ways, audiences cheers. Not that there was much development before, but when Mrs. Jarvis gets killed offscreen, she is likeable, and it’s a shame, and Joan Freeman is kinda cute.

“Friday the 13th Part: The Final Chapter” is nothing more than a cruel gorefest that recycles the same as before. Ever since “Part 2,” these movies have gotten worse. This garbage has one idea, and that is to kill everyone in the most gruesome ways. Who am I kidding? That is the appeal of these movies, but the fact that they are made for no money and turn out a massive profit is unnerving. What does that say about the teenagers watching this cynical garbage and the morons that make them?
