St. Louis Cardinals beat New York Mets in extra innings

The St. Louis Cardinals won the final game of their series with the New York Mets 2–1 on Wednesday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Both teams were even at one run each in the bottom of the 11th inning until Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn hit his first career walk-off RBI, a pop-up single that dropped past second baseman Marcus Semien, driving infielder JJ Wetherholt home.

The Mets got on the scoreboard first after outfielder Juan Soto drilled his first home run of the season to right field off left-handed pitcher Matthew Liberatore in the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cardinals infielder Nolan Gorman singled on a line drive to center field, helping Wetherholt score a run to tie the game at one.

Right-handed pitcher Gordon Graceffo was determined the winner and is now 1–0 this season after pitching two-thirds of an inning, allowing no hits and runs.

Liberatore, JoJo Romero, Riley O’Brien, Justin Bruihl, Ryne Stanek and Chris Roycroft were the other pitchers St. Louis used on the mound.

The Cardinals (4–2) will travel to Detroit to play a series against the Tigers starting on Friday. First pitch at Comerica Park is at 12:10 p.m. CDT. The game will stream on Cardinals.TV and be broadcast live on KMOX 1120 AM and 104.1 FM Radio.
