From Chaos to Clarity: How We Built RosterMate to Fix Scheduling for Shift-Based Businesses

I was 19 when I dropped out of university. I wasn’t failing — it was the opposite. I had great grades. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was learning about business instead of building one. I wanted to make something real.

Fast forward to today, and my brother and I run RosterMate, a workforce management platform we built from scratch in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. It didn’t start as a grand vision. It started with a very real, very messy problem: scheduling shift workers.

The Chaos We Saw Everywhere
