Yellow of origin return! Yamaha’s new “TMAX / Tech MAX” has been redesigned

Yamaha has remodeled the sports scooters “TMAX” and “TMAX Tech MAX” in Europe and announced them as 2022 models. From 2001 to 20 years when the first generation appeared, TMAX, which has opened up the world of automatic sports bikes, will be the 8th generation and bring a new experience. It will go on sale in Japan after the summer of 2022.

Yamaha has remodeled the “TMAX” and “TMAX Tech MAX” in Europe. The design of the parallel 2-cylinder engine with a basic skeleton and a 360-degree crank 562cc has evolved significantly while inheriting the conventional type. In addition, the spin-forged wheel that became a hot topic in MT-09 is installed, and the suspension setting has been changed accordingly.

The area around the body has undergone some major changes. When the first TMAX appeared in 2001, large scooters and sports bikes were still far apart, but it was TMAX that changed this completely. Twenty years later, at the end of 2021, the new TMAX that adopted the dynamic “Extreme Yellow” that respected the first generation appeared.

The all-newly designed exterior pursues compactness and aggressive styling. The air intake and dual LED headlights that look like winglets bring a new look. The tail lamp that looks like a “T” in the tail section is still alive and has evolved further.

The riding position is sportier and the forged aluminum handlebars are of the highest quality in the sports scooter class. An adjustable backrest is used on the rider side of the longer main seat, allowing it to move back and forth by 30 mm. The left and right sides have been narrowed down to improve foot comfort, but the footrest has been lowered by 5 mm and the hip point has been raised by 15 mm. The windscreen has a newly designed adjustment mechanism that reduces wind noise, making it easier to hear the sound of the Bluetooth headset linked to TMAX.

And TMAX’s traditional sporty and accurate handling is further enhanced by a lightweight 10-spoke spin-forged wheel. The moment of inertia is reduced by about 10% at the front and about 6% at the rear, resulting in a lighter feeling. In line with this, the φ41mm inverted front fork and single-shock rear suspension have been changed in settings to achieve a tighter feel. The equipment weight is 218 kg, which is the lightest in its class.

The electronically controlled throttle is combined with a new accelerator position sensor grip to enable control at will. The engine is Euro 5 compliant as before and inherits the machine equipped with a 360-degree reciprocating piston balancer. Pursuing a clean and deep sound.

The electronics area has evolved significantly. The new 7-inch TFT full-color screen can be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and Garmin’s full-map navigation (at least in Europe) is available for a fee. The navigation has a rider alert feature that provides information about dangers that occur along the route, such as sharp curves, as well as speed limits, and the presence of nearby schools. It also estimates the distance before refueling is needed and suggests where to stop.

Keyless operation with smart keys is more convenient with a newly designed switch that simplifies the entire process. Since the new center switch integrates many functions, the rider can operate the main switch ON / OFF, steering lock, seat open, etc. with a few steps.

In addition, Yamaha is the first Yamaha to equip a smart aero-style fuel cap that automatically opens when the hinge is raised within 2 minutes after turning off the main switch. If the user has a smart key, they can access it at any time as long as the steering lock or main stand lock is active. We also adopted an alarm that sounds when the fuel cap is not closed properly when the main switch is turned on.

Techmax offers the best specifications!

TMAX Tech MAX is a high-end specification that is based on TMAX and is equipped with a seat heater (with improved temperature control), a grip heater, and cruise control as standard equipment. The rear suspension is adjustable and is decorated with backlit switches and premium material interiors.

Prices for both TMAX and TMAX Tech MAX have not been announced, but delivery will begin in 2022 in Europe. By the way, it seems that the standard model will not be sold in the UK.

Both “TMAX” and “TMAX Tech MAX” will be exhibited at EICMA. And in Japan, it was officially announced that it will be released after the summer of 2022.
