Trust: The Fragile Bridge We Build Ourselves

Hey, I’ve got this thought buzzing in my head: “Trust isn’t natural – it’s something we humans cooked up, and in the end, it just brings suffering.” I get it. I’ve felt that sting too. No jargon, just real talk.

What Even Is Trust, Really?

Imagine trust as that invisible rope bridge swaying over a canyon. We didn’t find it there; we knotted it together from vines and hope. It’s not some instinct like hunger or fear – those are wired into us from evolution. Trust? That’s our human hack. We decide to believe someone won’t cut the rope while we’re crossing.

In simple terms, trust is handing over a piece of your vulnerability, betting they’ll handle it gently.

It’s man-made. Animals don’t sign contracts or whisper secrets; we do, because we’re wired for connection in our messy tribes. Yet that same bridge? It snaps, and down we tumble into betrayal’s pit.

Can Sinners Trust Sinners?

Now, your deep cut: How can I, a flawed mess who’s lied or let someone down, trust another flawed mess?

How is it possible to trust, on the name of shared humanity!? “Hey, you screwed up once? Me too. Let’s not screw each other.” Yet it’s fragile. One sin too many, and the bridge burns.

Trust = Expectations in Disguise

You’re spot on – trust is just expectations with heart emojis. “I trust you won’t ghost me” = “I expect you to show up.” When they don’t, boom – suffering. It’s why breakups gut us; shattered expectations twice over.

This post might be full of questions as I’m still trying to figure out the depth of this point of humans to trust. The moment trust appears, expectation quietly follows. When we trust someone, we are also expecting something from them – honesty, loyalty, consistency, or care.

I question everything related to it, why to expect, what to fear about , why is trust relating this society and relationships that are not even pure and unbiased.
